Djed Spence

After the game, Ange just said that Djed did well and he just hasn't been able to get him game time because we have a lot of cover at full back with er... Archie.

Seriously!!
Said it many times before, Gray has always been the one who has been picked to play RB being subbed on for Porro or starting games there whilst Porro is rested. Other than the opening game against Leicester where Spence was bought on for Porro for last couple of minutes, Spence has always been replacing Udogie or starting LB like the Coventry game. Up until now he has clearly been seen as Udogies cover, whether tonight has changed anything who knows....

He hasn’t been injured for over a month.

Right. And as we've seen, if you rush players back from injuries too quickly (especially ones who didn't start with a consistent core of match fitness) then you run risks.

Is it too much to believe the manager might actually have legitimate reasons for not playing him until today?

Tsimikas has played 10 games this season
And Bradley has played in 12 games
Much better use of the players imo

This season.

When you take the multi-season view, those 2 backup full-backs have been massively under-utilised. Joe Gomez seemed to get selected at full back over both of those specialists.

I think when we have a fully fit squad you can look at it one way. You might have VDV on the pitch as the backup LB, and Gray on the bench as the backup DM and RB. Then you have Dragusin as the backup centre half, who along with Froster makes 3 of your subs. That leaves 6 to have the midfield and forward backups. I think because Udogie started the season less than 100% we went with the 4th sub.

So it's perhaps logical that Gray appeared ahead of Spence as the RB cover, especially as Spence can't play in EL and prove otherwise.

What we need to happen is for guys like Porro to have a complete rest and not even be in a match day squad. Guys in the red zone need to be sitting in the sauna, having an ice bath and a massage. We clearly don't have that luxury yet.

Sounds like Spence did himself some favours today. Gray probably can't do what Spence did for that first goal. It was about raw acceleration and pace. I'm sure either are capable of playing the final sublime ball though.

Finally, some nice problems for the manager to have?

Absolute game changer today. And being able to play on both flanks of the back is a huge bonus. I hope he's fit and can now get more minutes.
He's got so much in attack and defence, I don't know what issues Ange had with him. Much better than Porro and udogie last night

I find it staggering that you can label him an idiot on anything without a full-scope knowledge of what's going on. You may not LIKE it, but unless you know the backstories, how can you simply label him a 'blithering idiot'?
I especially agree with the part where people have no idea what Ange and the team see day in, day out with the team. We have no clue what has been agreed with the players' contracts, the mandate from the club management, nothing. Some however believe a man who is above 50 and has achieved stuff is an idiot. Smacks of arrogance and delusions of self importance.
