Djed Spence

Even if he thinks Spence needs to be eased in then why has he not brought him on for the last 20 mins of games? Porro needs the rest and Spence needs the game time. Spence needs to leave in the summer if he's going to keep on being treated like this. He's 24 and his career has been wasted till now (some of that is down to him, not laying all the blame at Ange's feet).

So let me get this right:

Spence has played 64 league minutes over 4 matches which averages out at 16 minutes per game.

He played 45 minutes in the league cup, against Coventry coming on at halftime when the team stunk out the first half. During the second half he looked one of the best players on the pitch and scored a goal, and that was not even in his preferred position.

It reminds me of the days when I use to wonder why a certain Italian manager refused to play Sarr even though he was deserving of increased minutes.

My response to that would be, while I am still behind Ange as our manager, there is no doubt in my mind that he has made some dubious decisions when it comes to team selection whether it be starting lineups or substitutions.

True, but i think the Spence issue is symptomatic of a much bigger issue than Ange; who made the decision to buy Spence in the first place? And why?

Because he looked great at Forest and a great prospect? If he is a problem why is he on the bench? Would it not make more sense to keep him away from the squad and let someone else get experience if he was a prob?

Actually, I have changed my mind. I think the critical issue is not who signed Spence, as it is obvious that it was not Conte, it was a club signing.

No. I think the critical question is that after he had been signed and not deployed, who made the decision to offer him a new contract?

The question is what did we tell him to make him sign it?

Or a pay rise.
Yeah true, he’d sign for that. But why would we give a pay rise to someone who wasn’t in our plans. The pay rise offer itself is a positive noise that we want to keep him around.

Someone said earlier it may have been a move to preserve his value. Who knows, he didn’t cost us much in transfer fee and wages.

I like the guy and with Davies injured, Gray may move to CB more and Spence sees some minutes.

I hope.

I reckon if you were to look at Bradley and Tsimikas you would see the a similar pattern at Liverpool.

Tsimikas seems to have gone his entire Liverpool career and barely played.

I guess clubs give these guys a decent salary and keep them happy.

Tsimikas has played 10 games this season
And Bradley has played in 12 games
Much better use of the players imo
