Dane Scarlett

Hopefully he gets a game but no idea how he is getting called up still

The international setup seems to work more like a club academy - players just progress through the ages groups. Later developers or those outside the system seem to struggle to dislodge an established group.

Lankshear only got his first call-up into the England system a year ago. I know he's an age group younger than Scarlett, but he's clearly well ahead of him in our pecking order, and that's not being reflected.

I can never really tell who is ahead of who with these kids. You could easily argue that if Scarlett had played a full season in the 21's last season and Lankshear was away on loan that we would think the other way round. It definitely feels that Lankshear's stock is higher right now.

Scarlett had 12 goals in 14 games at U19 level for England. He got another 9 in 20 games at U20 and he's got 2 in 3 at U21's. He actually has 25 junior international goals which is very credible.

Lankshear who is 11 months younger has only been called up in the U19/20 age groups 7 times but has 5 goals. His stock is high because he played in PL2 and smashed the goals in at that level.

Obviously, we're all desperate to find the next Kane.

Scarlett is much better than a lot of our fans think
He has suffered on paper from crap loans. But they may also be the making of him like they were for Kane
Like you say, within his age group he is excelling

My hunch is that it is Veliz that doesn't quite have the tools at this level.

In what sense?

To me Veliz has major physical advantages - he's already big, strong, aggressive. Looks an impressive hold-up and link-up player.

Lankshear is similar. Maybe not so strong in the air, but by far the best finisher of the trio.

Whereas Scarlett just seems weak and slow. I just dont see what he brings at all (with the usual Kane was a bit like that before he bulked up caveat)

I could be wrong, but it was more of a technique hunch with Veliz. He is the things you say but he looked to lack first touch, control of the ball and the link-up play, passing etc. Personally, I don't yet see masses of technical ability from the 3 of them. Saying that, it's not abundant in Solanke or Richi either. Kane always had it, but obviously lost his workaholic tendencies in his mid to late twenties.

Whilst knowing we may not find another 24-25 year old peak Kane, I'd still like both finesse and work rate from our number 9's in the future.
