Dane Scarlett

I genuinely don't recall there ever being a clamouring for Scarlett to be used - if anything there was a skepticism over Mourinhos use of him in that he has a reputation of fielding very young players at clubs a couple of times in order to protect himself from accusations of not using youth enough.
There was a little bit. But they he played against Mura and looked like a 12 year old in an adults game

Remember when so many were desperate for Mourinho to play Scarlett regularly. And to this day he can’t get a regular game for Oxford. Shows us that supporters don’t always know as much as we think we do.

I must admit i have never been on the Scarlett hype train, like most young players they tend to get overhyped by most fans when they first get seen. Now that is not to say he will not become a very good player but i would be surprised if it is here.

I remember him coming back in a pre-season and looking way more physical. Probably after being that 16/17 year old we saw early days.

I saw him a few times at Portsmouth and he was constantly muscled off the ball.

Seemed happy spinning off the last man but got frustrated very quickly when the perfect ball wasn't played to him.

That Hoddle-like sixth sense and uncanny ability to make the most of a bad ball is a rare thing indeed, it seems. Maybe they're all spoilt nowadays by billiard-table pitches and the quest for more and more perfect conditions. Just a passing thought...

What's happenning with Scarlett?
Is he going back out on loan or being kept to maybe play a part over the next few weeks given our chronic injury situation?

When he was coming on the commentator said he was told he is surplus to requirements?
I don't remember that. Was it the TNT feed, with Glenn Hoddle and perhaps Sam Matterface?

A very well taken goal, clever run and a strong finish. Great to see him grab the result in a game that was drifting to a nervy conclusion.

Very pleased after all the years of hard work at Spurs and elsewhere. A timely reminder that lots of good players had to go on 2-5 loans before "making it".

Yeah.

It always seems harder when you appear as a 16/17 year old. We probably saw Dane first under Jose right?

In some ways, he could be just appearing now as a 20 year old.

He deserves a bit of luck, he's gone on loans which haven't really helped him in game time for various reasons, but may have aided his development as a person. His international scoring record is very good and I think he may get a chance to fulfil his potential with us given our current injury problems.

Didn't we have another young striker who made his debut for us at 17 then kicked around on loan for a couple of years not really doing much then came back and developed in to a top class striker?

Although not playing for us anymore, Parrott seems to be doing the same

Something else that seems to be forgotten when people say things like 'Lankshear is above Scarlett in the pecking order' because he's getting minutes; The players out on loan are getting experience that the kids haven't got yet, and isn't the reason we are playing these youngsters because a) too young to loan, and b) we want them to know they have a future with us so they don't get snapped up by another club before we can get them on a proper contract? In theory the kids will now go out on loan, and hopefully the ones returning from loans are first team ready.
