Dane Scarlett

Something else that seems to be forgotten when people say things like 'Lankshear is above Scarlett in the pecking order' because he's getting minutes; The players out on loan are getting experience that the kids haven't got yet, and isn't the reason we are playing these youngsters because a) too young to loan, and b) we want them to know they have a future with us so they don't get snapped up by another club before we can get them on a proper contract? In theory the kids will now go out on loan, and hopefully the ones returning from loans are first team ready.

I still have no clue who will end up better out of the pair of them, but the experience thing is massive.

Lanks, 19, built his reputation in a fantastic U21 side with Santago, Soonsup-Bell and Donley around him. 2 of them are playing in the Spanish second division now, with Donley in League 1. That allowed an 18 year old Lanks to score a load of goals and get PL2 PotY. Apart from these 3 games for the first team this season, his England record is this

2023– England U19 5 (3)
2024– England U20 4 (1)

Scarlett, 20, was 16 when he made his Spurs debut in Nov 2020, Since then he's been involved in 66 loan games in the EFL for 3 clubs. He's only had 6 appearances for the first team because he's mostly been away from the club. His England record at youth is the following:

2019 England U15 2 (1)
2019 England U16 1 (2)
2021– England U19 14 (12)
2022– England U20 20 (9)
2023– England U21 4 (2)

It's so interesting how 2 players only a year apart in age can have such different journeys to this point. Logically, you would say it's more important for Scarlett to be with the 1st team, whilst Lankshear goes out on loan to cut his teeth in the EFL. It's obviously nice to score goals there, but it's not the most important thing in my opinion as we saw with Kane.

Such a shame we won't be getting UEFA football next season through the league. All those loanees sort of need it. Saying that, winning the EL or FA Cup will solve that problem.

Fully agreed. It's fairly rare that players make it at this level in the first place of course, but even rarer that they do so without needing a loan first.

A league cup win gets us into the Conference League. But starting at the qualifying round....so probably July:)

Perfect for the youngsters though.
