Contingency planning : When Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Based solely on England, Southgate makes teams a lot better than the sum of their parts.

Ange is the opposite.

Don’t forget that until Bellingham came along, the England team was Kane, Dier and a barrel of brick.
I don't get the Southgate hate.
I think it's just a typical England hangover. His record with the u21s and the full team is excellent - probably the best of any manager except Ramsey. (Arguably better, but Ramsey did win the world cup, so has to be no.1).

He builds solidity with a good attacking mentality, but isn't reckless. He's excellent at working with youth. And he's a good ambassador.
Will he work at club level? It's hard to tell.

I think what he achieved was incredible, the squads were arguably the worst England have ever had.

Southgate managed to make 7 elite attacking talents look clueless and boring.
And don't start whining about which 7 players.
We had loads of great attacking talent and we looked boring and couldn't score.
And when we did score we just sat back and wilted until we conceded.
Oh, and we had no fit left sided players selected at all in the squad.

Not having that, unless you are counting Kane 6 times?

Elite, lol.

Ange doesn't know how to play that way (hence my point of either unwilling or unable)

Look at the two Leicester goals
- First one everyone is struggling to get back? why, why the fudge does one pass have your backline and midfield scrambling?
- 2nd goal, neither the backline stepped up, nor a midfielder pressed the guy in open space right outside our box.

Yes, mid block requires intensity, but it also requires basics, you can't play midblock and leave the wings and far post open on every attack (that's is a compromise of an attacking system, not one intended to manage the game)

Part of it is formation, player intent, but I circle back to the biggest issue I see with Ange continues to be game management, you have to be able to fudging hold the line for the inevitable 10-15 minutes a game where even the bricktiest opponents will have some of the ball and some of the momentum. This is the mistake I made initially with Ange, I looked at games like our first game of season and went. oh, unlucky, had control of most of game, had more chances, they were just more clinical on the day, no .. that's not it, it's opponents are willing to be in don't lose mode for large parts of game, then attack when the momentum allows, while we fudging do it regardless, so the opposition is much more likely to get reward in their moments.
I think we have been playing that "hold the line" game much more recently.

I agree you can't do that well without defending well wide. Leaving people to cross without pressure on them repeatedly is not a reciepe for good defending.

I think that's more down to fatigue than Ange personally. Managers who frequently set up in a low or mid block usually prioritise hard working players in midfield and up front. It's key to making that work.

I don't get the hate given that he has done better for England that much more decorated managers. That said I wouldn't want him at Spurs as he is so unproven at club level.

He did ok at Boro - slightly above par.
But that was 15 years ago.
Club football is a higher level than international and very different beast, so I share your concerns.

You never know what a manager is like until they are at your club. Then you get the deepest exposure to what they're all about.

Unfortunately, the exception is your country of your have the same intimacy. I did. I was a home and away England fan and quit a couple of years ago. Southgate was a massive reason. I sat there in places like Moscow and watched with horror at some of his awful tactics. I then came back and watched every Wembley game in the Euro's and saw Southgate's management debacle.

The only thing Southgate could bring our club is luck. He was one lucky barsteward in all of the major competition draws and we progressed further than we ever should have done with his failings.

I'd be devastated if he joined our club. I spent too much time watch every selection, every substitution, his tactical system and his game management. It is shockingly bad. Without the FA, Southgate would have had to take a different career path by now.

Would you have him for a few months to stave off relegation if Ange gets sacked?
Surely he'd at least get us defending like adults for a period to save ourselves, no?

Southgate would be the most marmite of marmite appointments.Personally I would be for it.His record with England is only second to Sir Alf and he knows the premier league well however amongst my circle of Tottenham supporters they are all 100% against him.I can see Levy considering him but not having the guts to appoint him.We need stability first and he will do that.Maybe he could join Ange team as a defense coach.Ange coaches until 1-0 and Southgate closes out the win.It is an issue to me that we don't have any experienced coaches within Ange's team .

He'd put the fans and opposition to sleep. We already have a manager who knows how to lose by one goal.

Seriously, if we brought in a manager now, at this point/urgency, it shouldn't be someone who has been out of the club game for 5+ years.

I'm not sure i agree that its down to fatigue. The ease at which teams are able to cross against us and the constant overloads against the FBs when those crosses come in have been there all season. It might well have been present last season but i honestly never noticed if it was.

Nope. Not when proper, qualified coaches like Dyche or Cooper are out of work. I'd have the Mason / Wells combo over Southgate.

Southgate needs to go and be a number 2 at a high level or take a lower level 1st team job and learn his trade properly. He has massive gaps missing in his portfolio.

Southgate would keep us up until the summer. And I fudging hate the idea of Southgate managing us.
