Contingency planning : When Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Poch isn't the type to give up a new job and commitment so soon, absolutely fairy land to think this is even remotely possible. The only manager I think might do something like that is Lopotegui.

It’s not a proper job though is it.

As much as we are a mess, it’s still real football.

For now anyway.

Based solely on England, Southgate makes teams a lot better than the sum of their parts.

Ange is the opposite.

Don’t forget that until Bellingham came along, the England team was Kane, Dier and a barrel of brick.

I don't like Southgate either, but no need for that.

I'd rather get relegated

If he came in and kept us up he'd then get the job full time.

Not necessarily. Just because a coach would be more competent than Ange in fighting off relegation, doesn't mean he's be worth persevering with beyond. Even Levy knew Sherwood wasn't worth persisting with after he got us winning more when he took over...

I am slowly warming to the idea of Thomas Frank given that he has shown he will set up sides to play attractive football. He cerainly has the coaching credentials and personality. I 'might' be OK with him after all...

Oh the pain .. personally think he's a long ball merchant but if the choice is Ange, Southgate or him ..

Indeed, and I hope to suffering that his ability to be a different coach stylistically would ensure that 'long ball' is left back in the Bees history closet!!! IF he is even a consideration!!!

You'd have to think there are a lot of out of job coaches out there eyeing up our soon to be vacated job at the moment, already analyzing and preparing for how to change things looking at our games. So I don't really buy into the argument that "no one can come in and change this now" - I think they very well can. Depending on who, of course. I doubt we'll pull the trigger before the Liverpool game though.

Zero chance of non improvement in results if a coach came in and had the team sit in a mid block (you could press in spells), had the CBs keep the opposition in front of them (would suit Dragusin better) and had at least one FB/Midfield stay in line, keep the possession game and focus on fewer attacking opportunities with the emphasis on clean sheets first.

Would you win against top sides? unknown, but would you win against the dross in bottom half, probably.

This continues to be the problem with Ange, not losing against Chelsea & Liverpool, it's the losing against Ipswich, Wolves, Everton, Leicester because you are unwilling/unable to setup in a way that allows you to take advantage of your player quality.

I may be misreading your post.

What's the difference between what you're describing and how Ange has set us up in recent weeks to you?

Good mid block defending also requires intensity and aggression.

Ange doesn't know how to play that way (hence my point of either unwilling or unable)

Look at the two Leicester goals
- First one everyone is struggling to get back? why, why the fudge does one pass have your backline and midfield scrambling?
- 2nd goal, neither the backline stepped up, nor a midfielder pressed the guy in open space right outside our box.

Yes, mid block requires intensity, but it also requires basics, you can't play midblock and leave the wings and far post open on every attack (that's is a compromise of an attacking system, not one intended to manage the game)

Part of it is formation, player intent, but I circle back to the biggest issue I see with Ange continues to be game management, you have to be able to fudging hold the line for the inevitable 10-15 minutes a game where even the bricktiest opponents will have some of the ball and some of the momentum. This is the mistake I made initially with Ange, I looked at games like our first game of season and went. oh, unlucky, had control of most of game, had more chances, they were just more clinical on the day, no .. that's not it, it's opponents are willing to be in don't lose mode for large parts of game, then attack when the momentum allows, while we fudging do it regardless, so the opposition is much more likely to get reward in their moments.

I’m no tactician, but that was pretty clear from early Spring 2024 (at the latest) onwards.
