Brennan Johnson

I'm just waiting for the folks who've had him in their sights to bitch about to now move on from moaning about his impact on games / form to now start moaning that he doesn't smile enough during his celebrations.
I think he has great potential, was starting link up really well with Richi last season, before Richi got injured again, IIRC.

The biggest problem with Johnson is two fold and one has nothing to do with him.

His biggest problem is that he needs to grow a pair of balls and have the confidence to take his man on, even against slower players he rarely runs at his man and uses his speed, he is one of the fast players in the league. When the scums LB was on a yellow, Johnson should have run him ragged and he didn't and it was absolutely stupid not too.

Secondly, for some unknown reason, despite having some of the fastest players in the league, we play balls to feet rarely rarely utilising their speed. We miss so many runs by players down the line, just cut inside and pass the ball sideways and Son, is one of the worst for doing this, he would miss so many runs made by Udogie and others down the left, then cut inside and lose the ball.

You can argue that teams sit back though, and yeah, that is fair argument, then that case you play differnt types of players, players with more creativty and vision for a pass to open teams up.

Romero is the main culprit for this in regard to Johnson. The amount of times he could take a touch then play it in front of Johnson is ridiculous. Instead he does his usual point, stop, point, let the defence set, point and then play the ball to the most marked player. Makes it worse is thath e's a good passer of the ball.

One of the highlights of the week was Davies clipping balls over the top for Son to run onto.

Brennan johnson would be very good in a team that takes risks and are rapid in attack.
He suits the team he came from. Ie Nottingham Forest. Less possession and quicker counter intentions.

If we get a long distance or a through the lines quick switch passer it would make him more effective but yes he ultimately suits a counter attacking team more than us.

Pleased to see him get another goal and an assist. Would like to see him more involved and the general buildup but not gonna complain about his goal involvements recently.

Once they start going in there is no looking back. Johnson and Solanke are going to be good for us for five years or more.

Glad we have both of them.

Would like to see him do more in terms of general play still. All the same, happy he got another goal. He got one of the loudest cheers when they read out the team sheet last night which is good as it shows the majority of the crowd are behind him.
Agree, but also think there are very good sings of him doing more in general play now. Cutting inside to go across or forward instead of just going back. Taking on his man. Combination play in tight areas. Obviously getting his confidence back.

Really happy that most fans are supporting him and showing that they don't agree with some of the stuff being said about him.

This guy's on fire. I would've thought that teams would set up to prevent his angled shots, but United almost let him do it twice. So unlucky with the woodwork but I am so happy to see Johnson doing well and hopefully having fun.

The thing is, he's rapid. While the MotD commentators may highlight Dalot not tracking him properly for the goal, There really aren't many defenders who could keep up with Johnson on that run. Couple that with VdV's blistering pace, and you've got a backline stretched beyond breaking point. If you get a CB running to cut out the shot (as in the one that got blocked), you're then going to leave a gap for one of our CMs at the edge of the box.

No matter how good your organisation is, it'll struggle against actual pace. That's why I'll forgive Werner his shooting issues as long as he's causing other problems.

How do you do that though?
It’s all about the cross first and foremost and you can do what Arsenal do… play 9 defenders and plan for set piece chances or you try and play us
The latter will hurt you
The former will hurt you if you don’t keep us out

Quite refreshing seeing the fans reaction to him in the last couple of games. Our fans get a bad rap on here but we’ve seen the good side of them with regards to supporting Johnson through a tough time.
I'm not sure it's really much credit to the fans just because they're chanting his name now when he is scoring. Decent fans support players during the tough times, not just now he's on a good run....
