Brennan Johnson

I think it's like when we had Alli. If you're involvement in the game during 90 mins isn't going to be great, then you need to produce in your moments. The last three games he has three goals. I wouldn't say his performances have particularly improved. He still doesn't beat his man or deliver quality from the right but he's been effective when it mattered and is generally playing with more confidence.

Like Alli he'll need to develop a more all round game to have a sustainable top career. Hopefully he can do that.

I think there are positive signs here and there that he's trying more stuff in different situations. For sure he did at times last season too, but particularly when he's looked off form there's little of that.

He was in acres of space the entire first half but our lack of a quick, accurate switch passer does mean we don't really get anything from him in general play. Goal aside again very few touches, I'd like him to be able to get a little more involved.

But that starts with the passing to him
We had seen with Sonny going wandering how it affects us negatively
We have to have these players play wide
And don’t forget we had no 10 after the red card with Beegvall going off

Thought he had some rather good involvements personally. Didn't necessarily work out, but tried taking players on, combination play etc. Not a lot of them, but that was more him not receiving the ball.

Definitely a shortage of players capable of playing those longer switch passes with accuracy. Particularly on the left.

Would like to see him do more in terms of general play still. All the same, happy he got another goal. He got one of the loudest cheers when they read out the team sheet last night which is good as it shows the majority of the crowd are behind him.
Yeah, was the same vs Brentford..

I'm just waiting for the folks who've had him in their sights to bitch about to now move on from moaning about his impact on games / form to now start moaning that he doesn't smile enough during his celebrations.

Is that a thing though honestly. Do you not think people have an opinion on a player good or bad? I don’t personally rate him but nice to see him chip in with some goals of late. Don’t think he’s got enough in him, but yeah would love to see him thrive. Just don’t rate him. Do people actually have their own players in their “sights” … very bizarre.

He is one of those players who can split fans opinions, he does a lot of good things but in some games he is missing. He seems to lack confidence at times and lets fans opinions get on top of him. Still young though and the ability is there .

He lacks the arrogance that some good/great players have

I actually think its not a co-incidence that his impact has gone up since him being attacked/brick on, looks like he got a little angry (the shush celebration) and is pushing just that little bit harder (the prove you wrong thing), if that's the case its a lesson not just for the fans/critics but for him

I like Johnson, he's no world beater, but he's a good fit for ange and he doesn't give up, he keeps doing what he is told to do.

I'm still wondering whether we're constraining him by holding him to that narrow right channel with the freedom to come inside and attack the far post. I still think that to see the best of Johnson it will be a more fluid system where he has freedom to move around laterally in the forward areas. I might be wrong but there is this football intelligence about him that we're not yet exploiting.

That arrogance is what separates the very best players
They have that supreme confidence that they will get another chance and take it
