Brandon Austin

I don’t think you could say conclusively based on today that he can play regular PL football. He had a very good game, he got MOTM which was deserved due to the circumstances but it was one game. You’d want to see a keeper in a dozen or so games before making any real judgement on him IMO.

If you can do something once, you can do it a thousand times.

Not really and that’s what separates these lads for the most part. Consistency. They’re all magnificent footballers with great ability. Some just have the ability to do it more often and under greater pressure than others.

Yeah, but I don’t think you get to be at Spurs for 17 years if you don’t have something.

You have to assume that seniority was the only reason Forster got the nod? That if Austin had gone in and had a couple of mares then we'd have effectively buggered two backups in one? Because he was most certainly more confidence inspiring than Forster and better!

Much more likely that the manager picked the player who he felt was the better goalkeeper - he sees them day in day out on the training pitch and also any friendly matches too.

Perhaps not so true though.

Firstly, Forster has played 13 senior games in our season, only 2 less than Venom. The 7 in the league since Dec have doubled the ability for Ange to assess his second choice keeper in match day situations. Austin has had no live match situations to be assessed apart from some half games in pre-season, where he looked good to me.

Secondly, I don't think training always gives a manager full visibility. The keepers are quite often off with the GK coach doing their specialist thing. I'm assuming Ange leans on Rob Burch quite a lot for the calls he has to make.

Logic would say that there is a reason why Austin has had minimal playing time. I've only got 90 mins of data, but would like to see Austin retained for the next one. It won't happen.

Scored his first one didn't he?
After that though....

lol - or was it? Kane actually scored from a moving ball that had been shifted from it's starting position as part of a fantastic routine that Wells and Mason came up with. Therefore it wasn't a "direct" free-kick.

I believe he has broken the cycle at BM though.

Its 1 game, 7 different coaches all saw him and didn’t fancy him, he is clearly seen as not good enough and is probably on such a low wage they keep him on for training purposes.

We have pod coaches for that, and he’s been registered to play in PL games.

He’s here on merit, as is everyone in our squad.
