American politics

still over 5 months till the election and campaigning won;t start in earnest till the conventions are over, Trump might even go ahead in the polls but once the dirty ads start hitting the fan, its hard to see mainstream america voting him in
So far he's been immune to the dirty side of politics - an advantage of running as an "outsider"

The problem is I think her dark side is going to be exposed, Trump has, as yet, kept that to himself

Part of Trump's appeal to voters is that thing that George Carlin said about Bill Clinton: "Bill Clinton comes straight out and says 'I'm full of sh1t!' and you know what people say? 'At least he's honest...'"

I think in the modern day of politics people wants someone that has a point of view, that's the long ans short of it. You don't have to agree, in the instance of Trump a number of people obviously don't agree, but people don't want fence sitters anymore.

Trumps an extreme case but you can see it now in the UK, people get fed up with the same old same old.

@Grays_1890 I don't think Trump has that many strong opinions that he sticks to. He says some outrageous things, then a week later will say that he's changed his mind or that it was only a suggestion. I think he's no so different from H. Clinton in that they both want to be president and will say what they think it takes, rather than what they really believe in.

Trump is a natural bullsh1tter with a sense of humour, Clinton is a robotic bullsh1tter with focus group approved scripts. People do prefer the former, but I think in terms of policy, Trump won't be pinned down to any position apart from the one he thinks will win him the presidency.

I think Hilary should win, but there is a danger that a lot of her voter base will shrug their shoulders and not turn out. If it's a low turn-out, I think Trump will be the next president.

For all sorts of reasons, polls are never accurate during this phase of the campaign. The most obvious is that now Trump is un-opposed , whilst Clinton is still battling Sanders.

The whole country votes in November. They vote for everything from the president down to judges, sheriffs, DA'S you name it. fudgeen fruitcases. Imagine living in a town where you vote for law enforcement?
Isn't that a better system than our one where it's just the kids who got bullied at school?

Trump is just an opportunist who says outrageous things to get free publicity. He doesn't believe half of what he says. Cruz, or Grand Pa Munster as I prefer to address him is scarier. He is much more rabidly right wing than Trump and he really believes in the crap that he spouts.

I've seen Trump talking very quietly and honestly about what he thinks. As far as I see he is a serious person who has views that most people would dare not speak about.

He has even come out and accused Bush of going to war with Iraq on a lie. That has to be unique in American politics to attack a prominent former president in the run-up to the General Election
on such a huge issue.

We've also seen him talk very loudly and lie, then change his mind a short time afterwards.

As for his 'unique' position attacking Bush over Iraq, Bernie Sanders has done this. He also voted against the war at the time, which is a bit more meaningful than bluster after the event.

Sanders...He's a Democrat isn't he?..Trump is a Republican.

politicians do change their minds...was it a big lie?

Well he was not wrong about that.

If you want a republican who spoke out and voted against the Iraq war, then I'd have said Ron Paul.

In 2002, Trump was for the Iraq War, in an interview with Howard Stern. The likes of Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders were against it at the time and voted as such.

Trump is a pathological liar.

The only way Trump is being honest is if by accident his actual views line up with what he happens to think he should say.

All politicians lie. Trump still manages to seem dishonest when part of an inherently dishonest group.

Thats just politics in general though isn't it?

I have seen videos of David Cameron defending Turkey joining the EU something he is back tracking on.

There is also a cracking video of Cameron saying the UK can survive without the EU, that was given at a conference not so long ago.

Back to Trump, he is like UKIP, attack the man at the top and don't listen to the people voting for him and asking why they feel as they do? Thats why in America these guys are having no dent in his popularity, they are attacking someone people have already decided to back, why? Because the largest population of America are poorer classes who voted for change in past and didn't get it, they done squeeqy clean and got let down so what do they lose voting for Trump?

When did the republicans vote for change? Particularly the poorer republicans?
