General Transfer Discussion Thread

Would love Rojo. Liverpool been linked to him (and pretty much everyone). He knows when to get forward and when to stay, athletic, great in the air. What's not to like.

Agree. I thought he was fantastic at the WC. Seems more obtainable than either Blind or Rodriguez too.

Maybe the Poch, Lamela link might be a hook?

Isn't Rojo another like Vertonghen......prefers to play at centre back but plays at left back for the national team?

Apparently it’s the other way round. He prefers playing LB but got stuck playing CB for his club last season basically because he is fairly tall.

Re: Levy…Baldini…Poch…SOMEBODY - pull your finger out!!

Bar maybe a left back I can't see us doing much business until late in the window. Poch needs to work with and assess the squad, and we won't sell low or buy high in the interim. All point towards some player trading in August.

I'm not so sure about assessing the squad. Poch has played us a few times and will have had us scouted - he'll know our strengths and our left bac… weaknesses.

He's just a manager than prefers developing players, rather than buying them in. He said at the start of last summer that he doesn't like signing more than 3 players a year.

IMO we've already decided who we are signing and are working away at the deals. In fact I would even suggest that it'll be Davies, Scheiderlin and Lovren (I think the CB might initially have been Moreno) and we are just in a fairly drawn out process of price bartering (Soton probably want to get a few more in before letting more go).

I've been thinking that Rojo could be a good buy for us. I certainly don't think he'd have problems defending over here, although his crossing did look a bit dodgy at times.

I don't think that is people's main source of disenchantment with Mr Rose.

Of course, but point still stands. Rose is accused of being hot headed etc yet from what Ive seen of this guy (not that Im pretending to know that much about him) he seems rash and I dont trust him that much defensively. I await the better informed to tell me Im chatting nonsense but from what Ive seen Im not that keen....

Rojo is Spanish for Rose

Kinda

Rash

Surely there are 7 brilliant full backs in Austria Germany Switzerland etc

£8m is very small for Siggy, I'd be surprised if it was for so little.

I really like Sig but I actually wouldn't be too sad if he left. Seems to relish being the top dog at a club where everything goes through him. He was outstanding when the main man at Swansea but could never recreate that form when a bit part player here. Palace would probably be a great fit for him.

Yeah I wouldnt be surprised if weve agreed a deal for him, but would be surprised at that price. I cant think of the last time Levy didnt sell someone for more than they're worth...

You have answered your own point, how can he recreate that form here when he's only been a bit part player. In my view he's played well when given a run of games and scored some big goals (Chelsea X 2, Southampton winner) and generally looked fairly creative when playing and hasn't been afraid to shoot from distance which we lacked for a long time.

Sig is one of the few players in our team who I have full confidence in when they wind up for a shot outside the box. He has it in his locker, but he does seem easily knocked off the ball for his size and hasn't really looked effective in any role for us. He has been pigeon holed in the left flank role since he joined, all because he did alright out there. I'm not happy about us losing a genuine goal threat from our squad.

It would be interesting to watch some of Siggy's games from Swansea. With us he runs around really trying to get involved and have an affect on the game but ends up trying too hard. Maybe the lack of a run in the team contributes to this way of playing?
At Swansea it was as if the game came to him and he flowed from there.

Technically he is good, great shot and looks to have a good attitude. Does look lightweight though and either doesn't have the strength or know how to use his body properly when under pressure.

Still not sure if i want him to go....thought he'd be a Poch type of player

Re: Levy…Baldini…Poch…SOMEBODY - pull your finger out!!

Well this year is, so far, a reversal of last year. I'd let this pre-season time to give Poch a chance to look at our squad whilst talking to levy and baldini on possible targets. He needs to know the team and understand how they'll fit into the team's, and club's, philosophy.

Time, we need to give this a bit of time. The players have gotten to know each other last season, should gel and commit better this season. We need some tweaking, not another major overhaul IMHO.
