Re: Levy…Baldini…Poch…SOMEBODY - pull your finger out!!

So United's new manager gets mentioned in all caps, but Poch doesn't even get a mention?

Walcott is mentioned as a "new signing", but no mention of the many players that could be just that for us next season.

Yeah, this seems reasonable...

That's why I said he's played his best for us. His head has been turned and got the feeling last season he couldn't wait to be out of here.

Indeed.

He didn't play at all well last season. And his attitude stank the place out.

It would not bother me to see him leave for Barcelona - especially for a whopping fee. He is far from irreplaceable.

Jan Vertonghen from last season is far from irreplaceable. But we know he can do much better and we now have a new manager in place, presumably hired because he can get a lot out of our existing players. Getting rid now because his attitude was poor last season at a very tumultuous time doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless his attitude is also poor now in pre-season training.

People are talking about a new centre back being needed even if we keep Jan, and Jan Vertonghen from the first season was perhaps not irreplaceable either, but I would argue he was one of the best centre back signings we've made in a very long time. To expect us to do better this summer, and do better with two signings at centre back even seems overly optimistic to me.

While a whopping fee for the 2013-2014 Vertonghen wouldn't be a bad thing, I would like to see how a 2014-2015 Vertonghen does under our new coach.

I can understand a lot of Vertonghen's frustrations last season. He chose Spurs despite the fact that Arsenal were interested in him because he was assured that he would be playing centre half. We then woefully under equipped ourselves with left backs, with AVB then shoving Vertonghen out there despite the fact that he was/is our best centre half.

Also if we sell Vertonghen then we'll need to bring in at least another two central defenders this summer. I think it will be difficult enough getting one top class centre half - let alone two.

Personally I hope that Vertonghen talks with Pochettino, is assured that he will be playing in the centre of defence, signs a new deal, get's a top class central defensive partner, a decent new left back and we see the 2012-2013 Vertonghen again.

Or, like many of our other players, he just didn't like or rate Sherwood.

There's no reason why Poch couldn't get him focused and motivated again.

Fair points, both. And I agree.

But if Barca are genuinely after him and we deny him the opportunity to move then I can only see his attitude being as bad as, if not worse than, it was last season. And we really need everyone to be singing from the same hymn sheet from the very start of this season.

Re: Levy…Baldini…Poch…SOMEBODY - pull your finger out!!

Just those that are panicking. Liverpool because they have a tiny squad and are losing their only outstanding player, and United because they are horrendous and have been delaying overhauling their squad for nearly 5 years.

We've got a good squad that needs some cohesion, organisation and motivation.

We need quality, not quantity, so there's reason not to bide our time to make sure we get the right 2 or 3 players.

can't say for sure who is panicking - may be the player/agent not the club.

Some people on here are panicking it seems. I'm sure some players and agents are getting stressed, as per usual I doubt Levy and Baldini are panicking.

That's a massive "if" though and most likely a something that is true for most of our players.

Yes, if Barca come in for one of our players we will struggle to keep that player and keep him happy. In that eventuality we're in trouble, because we'll most likely have to find two centre backs good enough to play regularly for us this season in the Premier League and I'm not optimistic about our chances. Until/unless that happens though I'm not getting worried as there's a classy player in Vertonghen and Poch is hopefully a very good manager.

It is a big "if". But it hasn't come from out of the blue. There have been myriad reports suggesting that Barca are planning to bid for him. His agent is busy whoring him around too. Not to mention that his awful attitude last season was attributed by many to the possibility that he had been denied a move to Barca last summer.

So it would be silly not to acknowledge that there is a good chance that it will happen all over again.

Haven't seen those attributions myself, but fair enough.

I think it's the same as every player we have and although it's something that should be acknowledged it's not something to be held against Vertonghen and really the fact that we have a player that might be interesting Barcelona is a good thing.

Re: World Cup 3rd Place Playoff - Brazil vs Netherlands

Wow I just read that Jason Burt the journo is saying that Juventus want Paulinho, are willing to offer 20 mill, but Levy wants nearer 25 mill

Wow

Levy should offload without delay or haggling if this is true.
