Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Maybe the plan was for Odebert to step in on the left but I’ve got big Wayne routledge vibes with him already
For me even if Odobert comes in and is the reincarnation of a 22 year old Son
we still have a massive issue on the right.

I appreciate that you don't see an issue with Johnson the way I do but a player who has so few touches and so little in game impact is a problem. He's a passenger, he doesn't beat his man, he doesn't even attempt to challenge his man. His crossing is meh, his passing unremarkable. He does have a good eye for danger and getting on the end of things but I'm sorry that's just not enough at this level and for this team. We aren't not so good that we can afford to carry a player who has no involvement for majority of the match.

When under pressure he's not an outball, when we're dominating he's not an overload. He's only really useful when we play very quickly on the break and there is a space for him to move into, but the primary way Ange has our passing schemes is the opposite of that type of football. I truly wonder what his purpose is sometimes.

Today was a prime example, Kulu moved over to the right and did more (and that wasn't much) in the little time he was versus Johnson for the entirety of the 1st half and the time in the 2nd. Honestly I think he's a major problem but we don't have a viable alternative as it stands. Again troubling for me. V

The outball in this team is never wide
We don’t actually play for an outball
We would rather wait
Johnson was poor Today granted
But that’s why you need two players attacking
Son is awful in these games as we have all the ball and little space
For me Johnson is the least od my concerns said it before and stand by it… Ange has done a Poch and chosen the worst options for his leadership group
IMO we won’t see the evolution he wants until all 3 are not starting for varying reasons

That's kind of my point that we typically play short and relatively safe so Johnson isn't even an outball option, something that suits his pace and relative lack of ball control, but Ange doesn't play to that strength of his. Instead we play slower more intricate stuff and then it gets to Johnson who just plays it back to someone else because he knows he's not effective against a settled defence. And honestly Johnson is always poor and has been in any game he hasn't scored in and even the games he has scored in he has typically been mediocre or worse if you look at his performances outside the goals.

I'm not not even discussing Son's performances because I said all that needed to be said about him as a winger last season, nothing has changed. This is a big problem, our width might as well not be on the pitch at this point. Ask any non Tottenham fan what they think of our team and they are pretty much to a man say our wingers brick

The leadership group thing is a red herring. The problems are the system we are trying to play, the suitability of the players to that system and most importantly the quality of those players in that system.

Ask any fan and they think son is great
Not realising we okay real possession football now
But you won’t convince them. Hell we have brought spurs fans who think he is the answer still
It’s why I’m not bothered about Johnson’s weaknesses when they are much much more prominent on the other side
That miss early doors form him was something we can only dream of having on the other side

In your case, brain cells. Were we going backwards last week? We're 3 points off third ffs. Yes, let's get another manager, and not give him time, and another, and another.....that worked well.
Or we can hold our nerve, and support our current manager.
And give him the time he has said it needs
But fans hate that

I don't necessarily think that's true when you compare the impact Werner has when on the pitch. Irrespective of his final product he's much more involved and used by other players then Johnson is.

As soon as he came on today we started switching it wide to his feet and he ran at his man. We don't do the same to Johnson cause he doesn't do anything with it

Johnson has never been the guy to beat his man that way
But we also don’t play it very quickly done that side when we’re not playing well

Johnson a player who has so few touches and so little in game impact is a problem. He's a passenger,

But Romero will almost NEVER pass to him. There were times in the first half when he was free on the touchline but Romero just ignores him.

He doesn't beat his man in any way or deliver quality. I agree with the point that we can't just play him for him to get on the end of crosses.

Johnson is very much a meh player. His only real strength is getting on the end of chances much like Alli but he doesn’t have Alli’s trickery. He can’t beat a defender nor is his crossing all that. Granted he’s got more goals this season which is good but his overall play hasn’t really improved

We can’t keep a clean sheet against anyone. Our forwards also aren’t as good as people on here think they are. Johnson has upped his game in terms of goals but he still can’t beat a man nor does he create, he gets on the end of things. Son is ageing. Werner is Werner. Richarlison is crocked. I really like Ange but do I see this style being successful at this level? I honestly don’t. You need to be able to grind out wins when you’re not at your best which we can’t do.
I agree. The huge number games that we have conceded the first goal is unacceptable if you have aspirations in this league. We are just so vulnerable playing the way we do. We can point to promising stats and good performances, but when you are 11 games in and have lost to 3 of the bottom 6, two of whom had not won to that point, you should be concerned. The blueprint to beat us is well known now and our individual defenders have been unable to meet the standards that the system requires. Anything below perfection is likely to be punished because we don’t have the numbers back.

Last year, during our first 10 games, it was widely acknowledged that Vicario had played a big part in the run we had. But that was not sustainable and so it has proved. I’d really like to think otherwise but we just seem to be on a path that doesn’t lead to the end result we all want.

But he is on target to get around 20 gaols
Playing wide
And techncially incapable according to some

how many goals do we concede to players that our right winger should be defending against though?

Hard to say
But a wingers main job is to score and create
A fill back and centre back should defend
What we do see, frequently, is a decent ball form the left and Romero is under it time and time again
Porto is flailing and sometimes Johnson is nearby
Ipswich scored today like that
Palace did too

He mustn’t speak to them before kick offs then, as the team plays like they’ve just got out of bed for the first 45 minutes of most of our games.
It’s why i think we have some really dumb players
You can see some decisions on the pitch down some players too highlight their lack of football intelligence

Do you think Ange ball would work if we had Van Dijk and Dias at CB? Honest question, Would it work better or would anyone get exposed here with the full backs playing so high etc? I'm guessing in Scotland and Japan the opposition are not as clinical on the counter when Ange played this way before but I just don't know.
