Tyler Dibling

Predicting the future and predicting how good a player will become is super difficult. But if we had the chance to swap Dibling for Moore, no money exchanged, at this point I wouldn't.

I don't think anyone would. But I don't think Dibling is too far behind potential wise, if we're hedging bets/looking at both sides of the pitch

Sure if we have that money available to spend for a teenager mainly for a position where we already have Kudus, Johnson and probably Kulusevski as options?

I think we'd be better off spending that money on a 10, a versatile attacker that can play as a lone striker and/or a full back option. Positions where we aren't as stocked. Like most signings in those positions Dibling wouldn't do us any good with squad size issues iirc either.

The line from Levy was we always had two budgets, and the youth signings were funded separately

Wasn't this something to do with PSR exclusions from memory?

U21s aren't counted for psr purposes. But not really what i'm talking about.
The academy will have their own budget for buying/selling players. Lankshear etc... would come from that.
Players expected to challenge gor the first team will be from the first teams budget gray would be first team not academy.
That's how it used to work under poch etc... as we have lange/paratici it might be one budget.

Makes sense. The academy needs to prove it's profit and loss so assigning these budgets would be important. I remember that period when we sold Townsend, Caulker, Pritchard, Mason, KWP with Kane and Winks obviously making the first team long term. Poch's net spending would have been negative without some of these player sales.

I reckon our academy easily wipes it's feet and probably makes a healthy profit.

I've always wondered about this. Whilst fans do tend to see academy sales are pure profit you do have to take into account the actual cost of training them all the associated costs, wages, equipment, travel, board, infrastructure costs etc and any wages they earn before any sales.

I'm sure the academy probably makes some money but I have a feeling they tend not to be as profitable as the fans generally believe, unless you are making a really large marquee esque sale relatively early on in that's player's career.

I don't think players like Gray, Odobert or (if it should happen) are funded separately. Even if it is a different budget it's the same pool of money that the club can use as they see best.

I guess its a different world now where 19 YOs cost £40m, yet no one will pay any fee for anyone over 27.
