Transfer thread

We should not take any gambles. Proven healthy tough nut professionals with proper footballing skill sets will take us forward.

Give me a Milner type of player or two not a show pony who doesn’t have enough oomph to impact a tough game.

Also preferably not brain dead.
Sounds good. Problem is, who is that?

I think this is a bit of a stretch. We would be creaming ourselves if we had got Delap, he is an extremely talented player who has a whole PL season behind him and shown he can perform.

And as for the player, he will get plenty of game time - It's not prime Kane he was competing with, if clubs were offered the opportunity to take one of Nkunku,Jackson or Delap there would be a fair few choosing Delap as the CF they would want. On goals alone he scored more in the league than either of them two playing for Ipswich....

I don't disagree, I'm just questioning how much game time he can expect at Chelsea given their squad. Maybe he backs himself to succeed, maybe they're offering massive money. I think I always just feel a little sad when young British players in particular go to Chelsea which can be a bit of a graveyard for players especially when I want them to come to us. I think we should definitely be in for Delap.

We need more creativity in our side. Especially from the wide positions.

I don't rate Tel high enough to pay 60m for him. I wouldn't make that deal at all.

Geuhi I like but only if we sell Romero. I'm open to it. I think Guehi is a better defender than Romero, and Romero has his moments of madness. We don't need center backs.

We need Eze who can move around the front positions and if he has a release clause it makes sense. Then we desperately need a creative wide player who can score. I'm not sure who though. Like Moore but already at premier league level. Moore needs a loan.

We need quality over quantity this summer. Two marque signings. Not lots of average.

we need to sell plenty in order to buy quality. and it also depends on the style of football we play - e.g. johnson for instance hasn't been played to his strengths.

agree on quality but maybe more improvements needed in other areas too for quality depth

I think this is the way I see it:

GKs - do nothing. We have Venom and Kinsky as 1 and 2. Austin is a worthy number 3 and is club trained. Bad news for Keeley who we might cash in on.

Defence - we need to buy another LB. Appreciate we can play Spence out of position or shift VDV over but I'd still like to see a specialist brought in. Obviously, Kirkez would be amazing but more realistically for us a player like Mitchell works. The other option is to explore the hybrid LCB / LB option. Obviously, if Romero leaves then it's Guehi or even Branthwaite as direct replacement.

Midfield - Joao Gomes is my first choice. He's now being described as the new Kante. I'm good with that. It probably sees us allow Bissouma to leave whilst still creating space for Gray, Bergvall, Devine, Abbott etc. We also need more creative talent. Goalscoring midfielders as well. Eze is the obvious option.

Forwards - this is the toughest part of the equation. We need a superstar anywhere across the front 3. Sonny is mostly spent and Kane is long gone. We need a new star at this level, perhaps with some versatility.

What would your opinion be of a double move for Wharton and Eze?

I think the remaining fee for Tel is about £40 million.

Guehi will have better offers than us I think.

Eze, I don't think is better than Maddison and wouldn't be great use of over £60m (especially considering his age).

Kirkez will be heading to Liverpool.
A very sensible left back signing could be Leif Davis from Ipswich.
A bit of a leftfield one but I also thought Bodo Glimt's left back was a good player.

Don't think Devine or Abbott enter the conversation this year. Think both go to a Championship or SPL club for a season. Same with Moore.

I'm not sure we are going to see Big Dom become a 20+ league goal machine which is a shame as I think he contributes a lot so agree a 'superstar' forward is needed but I would be focusing on a more defined goal-scorer rather than versatility as I think all of Johnson, Tels, Odobert & Kulu offer enough 'versatility. No idea who that would be though.

I would have thought the Belgian premier league is at least as good a standard as the Championship. Its as good as the Dutch league.i think Devine and Vuscovic may be more first team ready than people are expecting

This is what I said last year and I stick by it again. We need to get at least two bigger dynamic signings each summer who will improve the first team. More so now we are in the CL....

Personally I think we need to be significantly moving forward each window with one or two major (gettable) signings. Where we really push the boat out a little bit.

For me, as a fan, in this window it was Toney and Eze. After that the club can go bring in whoever they wanted and clear out whoever needed to go.

We got Solanke (who I think is a very good player) probably one level below Toney, so I'm not disappointed too much.
But Eze is a ready dynamic game changer. And we don't have that.
So I don't think we've significantly improved the quality. We've only made organic improvements.
That's why in my opinion it's not bad, but not great. Although we are playing catch-up with others."

We were linked with Xavi Simons. I think he would fit your bill - and the clubs being pretty young still.

So for me

- GK's - agree, keep Keeley out on loan as future option as well
- FB's - I'd say here we could go youth route (so not big investment), RB/LB doesn't matter, Spence can cover the other side, we also need to rotate Spence in more next season, we flogged Udogie/Porro to death with a competitve player on bench.
- CB's same, if one out, one in, we already will have Vuskovich to integrate
- Midfield is odd, dont' think we need a goalscoring midfielder (Maddison, Deki, Wilson, Johnson all do that, even Sarr and Bentancur pop up with occasional goal). I think we need some that affects possession/game control and/or does the creating part.
- Forwards, another odd one, Solanke is fine (get him the ball more and he will score, see point above), Richi will probably need to be replaced due to injuries issues. I'd actually advocate for a new RW, and consider moving/leveraging both Son/Johnson more centrally as a goal threat (neither of them are the wingers this system wants)

But really depends on who the manager is, and system expected

For me

GKs - all fine. Lose Forster, Whiteman, Austin. Loan Keeley and use Gunter as 3rd choice (works better that way round as Keeley isnt club trained).

FB - need a LB to share minutes with Udogie. Ideally homegrown e.g. Mitchell from Palace. Lose Regulion

CB - all fine. Vuscovic comes in, lose Davies.

CM - all fine. 5 strong players with a mix of combinations

ACM - ok. Kulu starts. I'm happy enough to keep Maddison as his rotation for now. Maybe see what Devine and Donely do in pre-season

WFs - need one, if not 2. Odobert and Johnson stay. We need an option from the right. Left i'd be tempted to sell Son and loan Moore, and then bring in Tel or another. Loan Yang, sell Solomon and Gil

CF - probably ok. Id bring in Delap or equivalent if we can, but could do another season with Solanke and Richy. Loan Lankshear, sell Scarlett and Veliz

So for me RWF and LB are essential. With CF nice to have.

Think mostly aligned

Sounds like Bentancur contract is on, I suspect Biss is on way, in that case, more sitting DM as replacement in addition.
