Transfer speculation

Most clubs are incredibly poorly run with no long term planning or idea on how to get the most out of the resources at their disposal. It's not Levy being stingy, it's everyone else being desperate macarons. Unless Sigurdsson absolutely loves life in Swansea, Everton should get him for just a minimal increase to what he's currently earning. This is like throwing everything you've got into scoring with the fat chick and the bar only just opened.

Nah, you got that wrong mate Ig a premier league team is buying a proven premier league player for £30m any decent agent with half a brain will ensure that the deal will not go through unless he gets a minimum of £100K especially when he knows the buying club is desperate to get the deal through.

Does that mean you are not disagreeing with me about £100K soon becoming the norm?

Sadly it's becoming the norm for average squad players and not just the odd star player at smaller clubs. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United have been paying their fringe players obscene amounts for years.

That's sort of my point. Everton should have some balls

An alternative view is that their manager has identified Siggy as a key part of his plans and thus wants him ASAP so he can get him in for preseason and ready for the first game of the season.

Sissoko is not on peanuts

It's is the norm now
And it's actually worrying how it's rewarding some mediocre players with big salaries that may feck up our plans.... it can't help is if we won't pay these wages and others will

We are going to have to pay bigger salaries at least to our current top players or end up with them seriously pi$$ed off and wanting to move.

The only way they may put up with earning less is if we actually start winning things......but to continue to be bridesmaids, to work harder than most other teams,to earn less than other players , well that will quickly turn into serious demotivation for our players

So we must keep the current crop sweet with competitive salaries, and buy in younger upcoming players who won't expect the bigger salaries immediately.

Such a mental transfer for Everton to make

Not really. Utd have paid up his final 2 years of his Utd contract and he joins Everton on a free and on a reduced salary which fits in with the Everton wage structure. its only a 2 year deal, and he isn't Lukaku's replacement as they are looking to bring someone else in for that.

It's Utd who are the big losers financially. But they don't care as they have money to burn.

@Jordinho the main sentiment I was alluding to is that any decent player demanding £100K a week is going to be out of our price range. And yes you may rightly claim that the market is over bloated £100K is on the verge of becoming the norm, at the very least you no longer have to be a special player to earn it as you might well have done around 5 years ago. Hopefully I am proved wrong and we are able to pluck out another diamond in the rough

Player salaries are only going up because income from tv has gone through the roof. If the players don't get a share of the billions flowing in then who will?

A Liverpool fan did a pretty good analysis of him. He's a highlights reel player.

To explain this, he doesn´t dribble much, he shoots lots but his open play shots are from locations that aren´t effective, he rarely touches the ball in the box, he doesn´t get the ball into the box much, creates almost nothing from open play.

Basically, he is a deadball specialist and almost useless from open play. Whilst not shown here, his defensive output is the lowest from all the central midfielders in Swansea. Only Ayew and Routledge are lower in their squad which I expect as they are wingers. Seems like something of
a luxury player who will get some goals and assists from corners but won´t help you much from open play either with or without the ball. If he is your upgrade on Barkley then that could be a problem as Barkley does offer some production from open play.

He does work very hard though. I think he has one of the highest total distance ran numbers in the league last season?

I'm an old git and like Jethro Tull like "living in the past" but despite my advancing years still remember how he was a passenger in many games and slowed our game down due to his bad first touch. I'd rather have seen Defoe rejoin than Siggy

I'm not sure what to make of Everton right now. They have been very busy, but losing Lukaku is a massive blow for them and they will struggle to replace him. There is also going to be the issue of Koeman having to integrate a lot of players all at once, but they are going to have a strong squad none the less. Personally I do not want Barkley, even though with these signings Everton have pretty much accepted losing him, I don't actually see where he fits.

If it's as a backup to Eriksen and Alli, then fine, but he's gone backwards this season past and isn't fit to command a first team spot.
