Transfer Rumour Thread

Albiol, Moreno, Vertonghen and Fazio sounds a whole lot better then Chiriches, Kaboul, Vertonghen and Fazio.

I don't think we'd sign two more CBs with Dier already on the books. 4 is optimum really (esp with Veljkovic coming through as 5th choice).

Agree with GB, I think it's gotta be Albiol or Moreno unless ofc Vertonghen is on his way out, in which case I'd understand us going for both. Biggest problem with that is we will have no defenders with any EPL experience.

On the Albiol deal: Sources from Italy usually mean absolute BS.

Albiol isn't really what we need (whatever happens with Verts). He's very similar to Fazio, whereas Moreno is quicker and more agile.

With Verts, Walker and Davies as the rest of the back 4, IMO we can carry an EPL-fresh CB (be that Fazio, Dier or a January signing)

Pochettino and Baldini trip to Spain not wasted, January transfer now on

On Wednesday June 18th Mauricio Pochettino and Franco Baldini travelled to Spain for a dinner in Barcelona at which they discussed with Espanyol the possibility of signing central defender Hector Moreno. The restaurant was owned by a friend of the Tottenham manager and Espanyol's position at that time was they wanted to wait until after the World Cup because they believed Moreno's value would rise during the tournament.

Just five days after that there were reports in Spain that Moreno had told Espanyol he wanted out. Pochettino had been using contacts at Espanyol to push a possible move along but the Spanish club were sticking to their guns and wanted to wait a while. Espanyol were looking at replacements for the player but preferred to hang on a while and see if Moreno's value went up. The Mexican had been designated as the club's sacrificial cow of the summer and they wanted to get as much as possible.

Moreno's agent, shortly after the Tottenham meeting, informed Espanyol that Moreno wanted to go and and play for Pochettino at Tottenham. Espanyol wanted around €10m. At the end of the month, around June 27th, French club Marseille bid just €6m for Moreno and that made Espanyol lean more toward Tottenham in a panic for a better price.

On June 29th, Moreno fractured his left tibia playing in a pre World Cup friendly. Terrible news for the player and terrible news for the bean counters at Espanyol. If only they'd agreed with Tottenham to do a pre-World Cup deal. Imagine the inappropriate cackling from a certain someone at White Hart Lane.

Espanyol now want to sell again and Tottenham are the chosen destination. Not only that, but the Spanish club are aware they won't get as high a fee this time. A January transfer would be 'ideal' for Espanyol, say Sport. Well, it would have to be ideal because 26 year old Moreno sees his contract end in June. Perfect for Tottenham.

:ross: How truly shoddy can this piece of 'journalism' be?? Those few words alone make me think this story is BS!

I think that is 3 days on the bounce now we havent had a mention on the BBC gossip column. Dont know whether that means we have plugged a few leaks or we genuienely are on the quiet side (which I doubt).
Hopefully we can make a few under-the-radar signings to avoid the Chelsea snipers (as I see they are at it with United and Strootman)

On the Albiol deal: Sources from Italy usually mean absolute BS.

I agree, the guy is 29 and would still command a decent fee with a few years still remaining on his contact.

Moreno seems the much more likely deal unless he's set his sights on another club.

Step in Levy. There's a skillful player in there going for cheap in a position we're struggling in right now.

Is he quick? our side is slow at the moment, really believe anyone we buy/loan needs to bring pace above all else

Nope, not quick. Fairly strong though, bit of a poor man's Berbatov when he was on form at least. Can finish, can hold the ball up, very good with his feet. Fairly versatile, can play as an attacking midfielder and a hard worker from what I remember.

If we can get him close to his top form it would be a very good signing. Not quite sure what happened at Swansea though, he was awesome then... A loan?

Michu has managed 147 minutes of Serie A football so far this season and picked up one yellow card. The guy is finished.

Daily Star: Manchester United could sign winger Gareth Bale from Real Madrid for £90m, allowing the Spanish giants to use the money to sign Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Liverpool striker Raheem Sterling.

They reckon Madrid are gonna spend that on Sterling, Hazard and Aguero. £90m to strengthen your own team and weaken 3 rivals substantially is good business. Not a clue where they will play them all, but if they are looking to offload Benzema, I'd hope we were trying to use our "special" relationship to an advantage.

Still I'll be gutted to see him in that shirt.

Strange.... The only one of those three players they could actually do with is Aguero. I don't see either Sterling or Hazard as being better than the players they already have across their attacking midfield positions.

Madrid buy sterling?? never ****ing happen.. unlikely for Hazard as well.

People need to understand, Madrid's buying policy revolves around talent/skill, marketability and image.

Bale is also a key part of their side .. highly unlikely he will be sold.

Aquero I could see them going for, but even then they would probably keep Benzema due to Aquero's injury record

Queens Park Rangers are watching Blackburn strike pair Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede as they weigh up a January bid.

Manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bring in a goalscorer to bolster his side's fight for Premier League survival and ideally wants players who can bed in quickly.

He has reservations that Rhodes can not play as a lone striker but his goalscoring record means he has to be considered. The 24-year-old has 59 goals in 106 games for Blackburn with 73 in 108 for previous club Huddersfield. He has scored seven this season and was on the bench for Saturday's game at Brentford where Redknapp was joined in the stands by assistant Kevin Bond.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer started with Rudy Gestede up front at Brentford and the 26-year-old continued his rich vein of form with his 12th goal of the season in just 20 games.

Gestede impressed Redknapp last season also and has now scored 23 goals in 38 games since joining from Cardiff City.

Rhodes has also been watched by Real Sociedad while Hull City failed with a £10million offer for the Scotland international in the summer. Blackburn may well have been wiser to take that offer in light of their transfer embargo imposed by the Football League on Monday. They will now be under restrictions to what, if any player, they can bring in. They also have interest mounting in 23-year-old winger Ben Marshall with several Premier League and Championship clubs represented at recent games.

QPR have considered moves for the likes of Peter Crouch, Gary Hooper, Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe but Keane will be staying in the MLS and Defoe is expensive. Stoke want to keep Crouch and Hooper is still struggling for form. A suitable offer for either Gestede or Rhodes could be timely.

Premier League clubs have been alerted to the fact Fulham are willing to listen to offers for striker Ross McCormack just six months after signing him from Leeds United for £11million.

The 28-year-old is content in London but the struggling Championship side are considering means to strengthen their squad elsewhere and a sizeable offer for McCormack would be considered.

Although Kit Symons has steadied the ship, Fulham are still ten points off the play-off places following their poor start under Felix Magath and their prospects of promotion look slim. They are evaluating the squad and are prepared to make changes in January.

Aston Villa are also among clubs keen on midfielder Bryan Ruiz. The 29-year-old Costa Rica international has interest from Holland and Spain also but Paul Lambert hopes to persuade him to make a quick return to the Premier League with Villa.

Swansea City are keen to make Tom Carroll's loan from Tottenham into a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old has impressed manager Garry Monk and is happy to make the switch from White Hart Lane where competition among midfielders is fierce.

Tottenham want to bring in three or four players themselves in January but are struggling to offload some of their surplus squad members. Swansea also have a liking for Kyle Naughton. Monk is in talks over bringing in a new full-back and a defensive midfielder with Exeter's Matt Grimes a confirmed target.

A striker is also on Monk's wishlist with Emirates Marketing Project, Liverpool and Tottenham among those continuing to admire £20m-rated Wilfried Bony.

Dont want Carroll to be sold....yet. Would like him back at the lane in Jan (if we can recall him) and Capoue, Stambouli and Paulinho shipped out. All are rubbish and Dembele not much better.

Would like to see us play Carroll next year in all the Europa, League Cup and FA cup games - ie give him 20 odd games in a Spurs shirt to see how he does

Agreed.

Although a bit early to make conclusions about Stambouli, I think he looks useful.
