Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

We used to be a Argentina-friendly club after signing the likes of Villa, Ardiles and Taricco. But now we are fast moving to be a Brazil-friendly club instead. We already have Sandro and being linked with the likes of Damiao, Paulinho and Bernard. Wonder what made us to move away from Argentina and look towards Brazil for talents instead.

with Baldini here I wonder if we'll be back with the Argentina players.

We weren't really an 'Argentine' club (except in the sense no one else had that many non-european footballers at the time of Ricky & Ossie) any more than a german, norwegian or croatian club as we had 3 players from each of those countries too.

I see the Benteke rumours are starting again in the press. No good sources so far from what I can see, but would be a very interesting signing if we could make it.

Benteke, Villa and Paulinho. That would make me happy ;)

potentially 35-40 goals between them. Would certainly be a big improvement

We had more then 3 norwegians. Erik Thorstvedt, Frode Grodås, Espen Baardsen, Roger Nilsen, Øyvind Leonhardsen, Steffen Iversen in our first team, and Dag Alexander Olsen in our youth team. Only Erik The Viking was any good thou...

Benteke will cost at least £30m. It's not going to happen when Leandro and Soldado are half as much.

Indeed, it's ridiculous money too. Benteke is worth 15-20m at most. His ball control isn't good enough for an elite striker. Adebayor would be better if he ever bothered to turn up.

Obviously ball control is er very important but if we assume that Benteke will develop and get better then in the not so far distant future.....wow some player.....ironically I agree Ade has all the tools but he doesn't have the drive or hunger.....qualities in a footballer that are priceless.

personally I would retain ade and look to move defoe on......that means we need 2 strikers possibly three. Anything more than 20m for benteke would be risky though....yet if he did sign for us I would be absolutely thrilled.

Greg Stobart @gstobart

Small but significant #THFC transfer update on Goal tomorrow. Not Paulinho - that remains unchanged (after the Confeds)

He has since tweeted that the update is about Villa - and added a smiley, so I guess its positive news

So what about this Armenian striker Henrikh Mkhitaryan then?

38 goals from 72 appearances with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk looks impressive enough, as does 11 goals in 39 appearances for the Armenian National team.

He's quick (he would have been a sprinter if his football career didn't pan-out) and has the added bonus of his sister working at UEFA headquarters in Nyon (useful for warming-up the Spurs ball in draws).

Oh... and he speaks fluent English too (one of his 5 languages).

Might be a bit expensive though.

He's a midfielder isn't he?
