Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

(In the blue square)

"Halilovic and Jedvaj are off to Spurs but will they stay until the winter?"

Haven't we seen that same front page before?

We've certainly been linked to them already, I know as I commented upon it.

This is tomorrow's front cover. The last one had the headline of Jedvaj/Halilovic to Spurs? This one seems to be more definitive in saying that they're coming to Spurs but will they stay until the winter? Won't know until tomorrow what's actually written inside, some Croatian dude on SC keeps posting it all.

As I've said before, I'll be delighted with the signings if they happen, fingers crossed that the article is accurate! And I'd be happy for them to stay on loan in Croatia for 6 months, to allow them to continue to develop their skills with first team football.

These are two of the top players in European football, wanted by a host of big teams and for good reason. The two players are greatly talented and very young.

Arsenal are apparently trying their best to get Yedvaj too. He has the potential to be the best defender in the World within the next 5 seasons.

In just one more day the Confederations cup will be over and the transfer window will officially be open. Let the signings begin.

From another Croatian dude on SC:

Article is on the web now, don't have time to translate (maybe somebody else will do it) but basically it says that both of them are VERY close to signing with Spurs. There are still some details that have to be sorted however. Both of them should stay until the winter, and one of the reasons for that is work permit, especially for Jedvaj. Price for both of them should be around 20m euros.
No quotes from anyone and it's a different journo this time (who also writes a lot about Dinamo) but looks good though.

Follow up on the above.

The author says the departures of both Jedvaj and Halilovic are getting closer. Both players are coveted by Spurs, with the combined fee being around 20m euros. According to some information they have received, they already have "one foot" in Tottenham. What's left are the details of the contracts. And according to those details, both players would remain at Dinamo until the winter.

By that time Jedvaj will be an adult (18-years-old) and it would become easier to obtain a work permit. They presume getting a work permit for one "underage" player shouldn't be a problem (Halilovic), but for two it might be. It would be in everybody's best interest to wait a little.

However, they say that we must keep in mind what happened recently with Roma, where they all but paraded Jedvaj as a Roma player. In the end, the deal fell through. Basically, nothing's final until it's final. Just as Tottenham reacted quickly to overtake Roma, so too may a third club with a last ditch effort.

That snippet from SC is interesting.

From Sportwitness, they say the Spanish Press are running the story that Villa could be coming to us and for cheap fee of 8m Euros whilst it looks likely that we will be going in for Saldado

Tottenham get Villa so cheap, €8m closed soon, Soldado could be added too, say Spanish press

As the summer goes on and the bidding war which Barcelona had hoped would develop for David Villa doesn't show any signs of remotely being likely, the club are getting more flexible with their conditions for selling him. During the winter transfer window they didn't want to let him go but now they seem so keen to get Villa off the payroll that his cost is tumbling by the week and coinciding with the grin on Daniel Levy's face growing. That's if he does grin.

Villa has a clause in his Barcelona contract which means he'll get an astronomical amount in his final year with the club and then be able to leave on a free transfer. Giving up this huge cash pile was what Tottenham had to get around and we explained earlier this month how getting the striker for a cheaper fee would help them do that.

A week ago, we said:

'Tottenham are in the quite unique situation of being prepared to offer more for the striker than another club, in this case Fiorentina, who according to reports in Spain today and yesterday, want to pay about €10m. If Tottenham brought their offer down to match that of Fiorentina then the difference could easily be used to pay Villa a signing-on bonus.

This could be essential. Villa's contract is proving an issue for Barcelona and it's why his price is tumbling despite him clearly still being a top player. On June 8th Marca said that David Villa had offers from both Arsenal and Tottenham and was going to ponder his future whilst away with Spain. Marca also explained that Barcelona may have to give him a pay-off to get rid, because of a clause in his current deal. If Villa were to wait another year then he could leave for free, which is Barca's worst nightmare, and his contract is structured so that in the final year of his Barca deal he's set to earn a whopping €11m, which he won't get matched elsewhere.

Therefore Tottenham could bring their €12m down to match Fiorentina's €10m and use the other €2m as a signing on bonus for David Villa. He's only got one year at Barcelona at €11m, and Fiorentina wouldn't get close to that, and the offer of a 3 year deal at around €5m a season sounds a good one for him. Those are just figures we're throwing around, but it wouldn't be too ridiculously high for Tottenham and would surely prove acceptable to Villa. He's 31, his injury problems have been overplayed somewhat, and he still has an eye for goal.'

Fiorentina have since moved out of the picture and according to today's Sport that has meant Tottenham are going even lower, at this point they have no competitor, other than Arsenal if they fail to get Higuain, but that looks like it's going to happen. Being in such a favoured position means that Spurs can offer even less, pointing to other clubs simply not pushing their interest further.

Everything is reportedly confirmed with the player so it's just a matter of him returning from the Confederations Cup, if he decides to sort it before he goes on holiday then it will be just a few days before Tottenham could close the deal, but he may decide to holiday with his family first which would delay the signing a little. Villa's season is just ending and Tottenham or Barcelona will obviously have to give him some extra time off meaning a shortened pre-season

Levy could drag this out throughout the transfer window and try and get him for even less, but €8m, or even the old €10m, sounds like a bargain and he's probably better getting it sorted sooner rather than later as Sport claim he will, saying the transaction could close in the next few days.

They also say that Andre Villas Boas is set to have a complete overhaul of Tottenham strikers and is looking at a possible deal for Roberto Soldado, Emmanuel Adebayor is stated as being for sale. Getting Villa so cheaply means that the club will be able to look at other players too, having a choice of Villa and Soldado next season, and perhaps rotating the two, would be a fantastic situation for Spurs to be in.

Don't do what your natural instincts tell you to do Levy.

Please.

Going from Defoe to Villa and Ade to Soldado in 2 months would just be crazy, although I'm not Soldados biggest fan.

Croatia will join EU tomorrow. It can't be too difficult.

Where is this confirmation written? Is it on their club's website yet?

If so, then woooooohoooooooo this is seriously good news! Excellent piece of business.
