***Tottenham Hotspur VS Liverpool - Official OMT***

Playing Sandro and Parker doesn't mean we're parking the bus. Against Norwich we played all 3 of them and totally dictated the game, playing some of our best football.

Norwich pretty much gifted us possession though didn't they?

Problem with playing without a playmaker as one of our two central midfielders is when teams put pressure on us when we have the ball, and to a lesser extent when we win the ball deep in our own half and need to play our way out of trouble. Put simply we get pressured into playing long balls way too easily, conceding possession and our grip on games. Fine against truly top teams where we expect to have less possession and plan to try to attack on the break most of the time, but not when we want to at least have our share of possession.

Modric as one of the central two in this game all day for me. Not at all convinced about Sandro and Parker together. The times it has looked good is when Sandro has been playing as an out and out anchor man with Parker and Modric ahead of him alongside each other both going box to box. Letting Modric drop deep to get the ball at least some of the time. However, that role doesn't really suit Parker and he has looked more average when we've played like that so I'm not a huge fan, again unless we're playing a top team. Sandro and Parker as the deep men with Modric up behind the striker hasn't looked good at all to me.

But Modric doesn't play up behind the striker, he's basically in his normal position but with a little less defensive responsibility.

--------------------------------------------Sandro--------------------------------------------

----------------------------------Parker---------------Modric---------------------------------

Sandro = DM
Luka and Parker = CM

So it's:

Sandro = Defensive midfielder that holds his position and breaks up opposition play
Parker = Box to box mid that uses his energy to march up and down the field. Supporting attack when needed and helping out Sandro when needed.
Modric = Creative cm that our attacking play goes through.

VDV, Adebayor and Bale are a superb attacking trio. And Modric, Walker and BAE will hardly be stuck to their position either.

All very true.

But if we normally play a CM of Modric/Parker, then logically to play Modric/Parker/Sandro dictates we lose a player from somewhere else on the field.

And it certainly wont be in defence

Of course but different games call for different tactics imo, especially in a game like this, against a team that has raised their game when playing better opposition. Consolidate the centre, especially as we'll be up against brick like Spearing and Adam with Lucas injured and we can build the basis to allow the attacking players left to rip apart Johnson/Carragher etc.

I'm hoping that Dagleish will be buoyed by their recent victories over City and Man united and go 4-4-2, with Suarez and Carroll upfront. That will be much more to our liking.

------------------- Friedel

Walker --- Kaboul ---- King ---- BAE

Lennon* -- Modric --- Parker --- Bale

-------------- VDV ---- Ade

*Kranjcar if unfit

Subs: Gomes, Nelsen, Rose, Kranjcar/Gio, Saha, Defoe, Sandro

No need for any defensive brick against this bunch of cloggers. 5 - 0 Spurs

A game like what? A game that we won at a canter last year without them putting up any resistance? Or a game like the one where we swept them away early in the season?

We should respect Liverpool, but not fear them. Stick to what we are good at and go and blitz them.

Far to much concern going around here for what is basically a slightly above average side.

On paper it's one less attacking threat, but it also gives Modric and Bale far more freedom than they'd usualy have in a flat 4.

I don't want to see us revert to some ultra-cautious approach with Parker, Sandro and Modric all sitting deep. Pool may be a tough side to beat, but we certainly wont do it by paying them more respect than they deserve IMHO.

i can dig it

Depends who we're playing ... Wigan at home isn't the same as Liverpool away. In a 4 they can't afford to vacate their position too much because it leaves Parker to do everything by himself.

We have had a pretty standard formation all year, its served us just fine.

This is Liverplop, not Man U
