Tottenham fans

Stadium was brick show, and this is my key point about our fans

- Levy/ENIC don't have to follow fan opinion, but to pretend it's not considered is fudging naïve
- The problem with Nuno is the same entitled flimflam, we have whole bunch of our fans who think there is some revisionist history version of Spurs that won trophies every year, was smashing the league and should only be hiring fudging Pep .. 17 fudging trophies in 144 years ...

Said it then, Nuno made sense (if not high profile)
- We just got out of a turbulent/toxic period, needed a safe pair of hands with a decent human in charge, someone who could see through the inevitable mess of rebuilding the entire squad, and in 2-3 years could go for the push on manager
- Our fans just wouldn't let it, the pressure the guy felt to not be "Jose Mk2", to not play his 3 atb and the toxic brickshow in the stadium killed him before he started

But it doesn't matter, you can see we have already made up our minds on Ange ..

I agree, but I have made up my mind on Ange, as he’s had so much more time.

If you can’t see it after 6 months it’s probably not the right person.

If you can’t see it after 18 months it’s definitely not.

I actually think that toxicity was more a build-up of anger against Levy/ENIC; Nuno got caught in the crossfire mainly.
Plus it was at a time we were coming out of the lockdown restrictions on crowds etc so i think some of that had been pent-up frustration built up during the Jose period when fans couldn't attend games in person.

Don't disagree but it doesn't change the fact
- Nuno caught the bullet
- Similar to what's happening now

People are frustrated after years of perceived underperformance, the squad is in a transition moment (errors of the past to fix), we are struggling with injuries and results in league are off (two cup wins in next week would be interesting)

And where are fans? lets be clear, if fans on this board are close to edge with Ange, the wider consensus will be far more polarized

The longer I follow this club, the more I think owners, manager, players, no one will ever get a chance to be successful because the expectation is off the chart, lets be clear, Ange doesn't have to fail, he just has to look like he might fail and people have abandoned ship already (to my earlier point, same as Nuno).

Serious question

- Did you expect better than 5th last season? because if not, then he succeeded last season?
- Are you not willing to actually see what his results are this season? or is it "what you see" regardless?

I don't think you can compare the two. If we think the critique of Ange is harsh, Nuno's was far harsher. Remember Poch being booed off after his second game of his second season vs Stoke? Again, that could be considered far harsher.

As a club we have certainly been allowed to drift and it hasn't helped that the leaders at different times have said or done things publicly to give the impression that winning or trying your very best to win is an afterthought. Ange isn't getting too much undue criticism tbh, and this was a guy that had viral songs and small stadium gigs dedicated to him after his first home game!

From 10 games in I expected 3rd at least.

No, because I hate the way we play, I can’t have us giving up so many chances each game, I want us to be mean in defence, I want to control games.

A poll on teletext earlier said about 85% Ange in
And about 85% Levy out
Not sure if it is being discussed on some other thread
But that is a VERY big statement for a toxic hell hole like teletext, for it to be 86% Ange in after losing to Cheatski

But that’s because they have the alternative in that vote
And as is regularly repeated levy is an owner if the club, not an employee. He ain’t going anywhere

Didn’t the players give up on Nuno? (I may be misremembering.)

Is Teletext still a thing? (Or is that the new filter for Twitter on here?)

That’s because we wanted our Tottenham back
We have it now
I’ve been going since I was 4 and this club has never been consistent, never really challenged for the big trophies and won a cup each decade
It’s not a successful club in reality
But it’s a club with a footballing ethos that was lost
The Tottenham way is a thing

Edit: Yes, it obviously is. (And I like it!)
I thought Nuno deserved more time myself and he was harshly treated
But he was far from anyone’s first choice and when a better guy was available and gettable the club took the plunge

The first thing we need to bin off imo.

I would go as far to say that the problem was that some of the senior pro's thought they knew more about setting up a team than Nuno did. They flatly refused to adopt his tactics.

I've never forgiven Kane for turning up a week late to Nuno's pre-season and causing all that disruption in Nuno's first 10 games. Kane flatly refused to work from the front, a pivotal part of Nuno's tactics. I was at Nuno's last game when Cavani and Ronaldo, 7 or 8 years older than Kane, put him to shame with their work rate.

Hojbjerg was another moody little prick, refusing to graft for his manager. That came to roost under Conte when he was caught walking back multiple times as the ball hit our net. It started under Nuno, and from that point I wanted him out of our club.

I also remember the first 3 games of that season and how refreshing Dele's attitude was.

Only just read through this thread and I would say that the abuse of players and managers is certainly nothing new. I used to reside on the Shelf then after that in the Park Lane and there was always someone abusing one player or another. It always seemed that there would be certain players who got stick whatever they did. You know when they misplace a pass and a very loud groan is heard. Off the top of my head ome of the players that used to get abuse was Andy Sinton for some reason and Jermaine Jenas seemed to be another.
There used to be a guy near me who idolised Teddy Sheringham but after he went to United when we played them he screamed madly every time Sheringham got within about 50 yards "Sheringham you C**t hope you and your family die of cancer" I mean there are players I have not rated too highly down the years but while they are wearing the shirt I am not publicly abusing them. But every club has taco fans these days
