Timo Werner

Oh dear! Even the last game of the year has not changed anything: For Timo Werner (28) it simply does not work in the Premier League.

The final point of a first round to forget: Of 19 league games, Werner sat on the bench 16 times at the beginning. Three times coach Ange Postecoglou (59) even left him completely out.

Now one fears a return to RB in Leipzig! Werner still has a contract with the Bundesliga team until 2026 - at the latest on the 1st. In July, he should be back on the mat with the Saxons.

Because it is extremely unlikely that Tottenham will draw the purchase option for Werner over 12 million euros. The former top striker is too weak.

Of course, however: An early return to RB Leipzig in the winter is not an issue. Werner should stay at Tottenham until the agreed end of loan in June. Also because Leipzig does not want to bear the approximately 10 million euros annual salary that Werner now earns.

Werner is not a good look for Ange

- Clearly he wanted him
- In some ways, he absolutely fits the system
- His finishing can't be a fudging surprise
- Throwing a player who clearly is fragile from a confidence/mentally perspective under the bus is not helpful

Even against Wolves, he looked nervous as fudge (manager publicly humiliated him) and yet somehow got a cross in that Solanke should have been on the end of, would have been game winning.

In my opinion, once we decided to loan/renew, he should have been used more (not on the fudging right), he's decent rotation, if you actually got players to be on the end of some of his crosses, he can make an impact.

Same as Johnson, limited player, useful in right system, never the core of our problems, will be sent back in summer.

I think Werner is meant to be at the club this year alone as a stop gap while Moore or some other LW matures. It surely can't be a permanent purchase.

Your anti Ange agenda is getting boring now. Werner has played no different since Ange called him out as he had done before, to try and make out he is now looking more nervous is hilarious. He simply isn't good enough, and I am one of the more forgiving ones. He is better suited to the system than Son but that doesn't say much, not sure how many clubs he has to go through before you accept that....

TBH EUR12m isnt bad for a player of his calibre as I still think making it permanent will give us some money if we sold him in a year or two. He is going through a rough patch for sure, but I still think he can do a decent job he is just so short of confidence. I remember when he was at Leipzig before and I wanted him but Chelsea got him and I was gutted. Didnt quite work out for him there but he scored bag loads of goals for Leipzig.

I think we need to persist him and start him in some games.

Werner will be 29 in March. By the time he completes this and next season he'll be in his thirties. If we sold him in a year or two we won't get many interested buyers, and they certainly won't be in a position to match our salary. He'll just be a chain round our necks. His pace and stamina will be on the decline, and he won't survive on his other attributes.

For me, the new Spurs is different from this strategy. Reminds me of Hojbjerg. Would have been a decent stop gap for one or two seasons. Ended up a Spur for 4-5 years and massively contributed to the mediocrity that ensued.

I want to see a ruthless streak from us in these situations.

I’ve seen this said many many times but if he can’t finish or find the right pass what’s the point?

Oh dont get me wrong, I want a Sane, or a Mahrez (not sure who is the up and coming or prime candidates currently) but its not our model. We sometimes buy has beens or people that havent played well so their cost is low and who has chance to prove their worth.

I just think he still has 2 or 3 years left in him, but yes we can do better clearly.

Based on his last 2 years we need to get rid of him right now

No one will ever pay more than 12m for Werner at this stage. This is pure delusion on your part.

Would rather spend the 12m on a kid with potential than someone that is never going to be good enough.
