Timo Werner

Perfectly fine response from him.

He's protected the players quite a lot imo. If he feels it's right to be more critical in certain moments that's fine.

Up to the players how they respond.

But this is also a risky tactic, shows imo that he's feeling the pressure and the kind of thing that often signals the downfall of a manager. I hope that's not the case with him now.
It is risky... especially because literally the other day he was espousing keeping things within 4 walls.

The other thing to consider with these type of comments is, who are you giving them to? Journos and SM low lifes....I'm sure they'll get the message out just how you wanted. What purpose does it serve? Roll eyes.

It's said to journalists and then spread on SM. But it's not them it's "given to". Assuming it wasn't just frustration boiling over and a conscious choice it's a message to the players.

Fully agree that it's risky.

He took it too far, Werner was no worse than Son
He wasn’t. Son managed to trap the ball and close down. Werner fresh, didn’t.
and much better than Johnson.
Johnson barely had the ball. But he didn’t capitulate as Werner did.
You don’t attack your own in public, you always defend, and keep that stuff in the dressing room.
He took him off at half time. He has to say something when asked. So he’s laid down a challenge to Werner. Many other managers have done similar things sending messages via the press conferences.

He could have just said: "I took him off at half time, you draw your own conclusions". Another way to look at this is that Ange is taking a different approach by calling out a performance.

Johnson not having the ball was him capitulating, he cost 50m quid, he should be beating teams from the farmer league single handedly, he spent the whole game hiding.

He's made half time changes before and been asked about them, he's never replied like that.

'given to' or not is just semantics.

The point is, does this chosen route of journos and SM to deliver messages to the players carry more weight/impact than group (or individual) chats behind closed doors?

Should never be captain. You can tell from his personality that the feeling of responsibility will out weigh him playing his natural game, which in turn makes him a worse player. He's playing safe, which has never been in his skill set.

That is a good post and is something i have not considered before. We all know Son over the years has always had periods during seasons when he has looked way off form but this season he has been well below his best and very poor at times. I thought that maybe the amount of football he has played and travel he has had to do for international games over the years could be a one of the reasons and his age is another.

But maybe as you say the captain armbands could be another reason.

…and accept the performance from Werner?

Fuk people’s feelings. Werner needs to step the Fuk up.
Yeah feelings?! It's not as anyone's been called out for being ugly or stupid. If I were paid 5-600k a month to deliver mail, I should damn well be prepared to get flogged if half the recipients got their mail wrong.

There’s a brilliant player at Watford (Chakvetadze) who I’ve seen a couple if times. It’s absolute chalk and cheese watching him and Werner. Like you say I’d be amazed if we went in for any has-been again.

Weirdly we have 4 others that can play there. Son, Odobert, Moore, Richy. All 5 (inc Werner) are either injured or out of form.

The stellar signing for me who is 2 years younger than Chakvetadze but much the senior player in the Georgian team and almost certainly would not come to us is Kvaratschelia.

But Napoli picked him up for £10m! Thats what our scouts/DOF need to be finding, not the other end of the scale.
Paratici also wanted him at the point he went to Napoli.
