Timo Werner

I really hope today is the last time we ever see Werner start for us.

Me too. I’ll admit I sometimes go OTT in the match thread calling him out, but I just cannot understand why we loaned him in again! Especially after we know how it turned out last time and we know what he is. I was underwhelmed when we brought him in last winter, and I know everyone makes mistakes when it comes to transfers and I’m not advocating anyone lose their job for one signing, but whoever sanctioned the decision to bring him in AGAIN really needs a gonading. I’d rather Moore started every single game from now on, Werner should only be used in an emergency. Works hard and is quite durable, but he’s nowhere near good enough.

That's quite the statement!

Andy Booth.....
Frazier Campbell....
Gregosz Raziak....
Helder Postiga....
Paul Mahorn.....
Neale Fenn.....

(Ok, I need to stop - it's painful)

GHod, I’d forgotten all about Neale Fenn!

To be fair to him, though, he might not have been much of a footballer, but he’s gone on to great things with Crowded House and Fleetwood Mac.

Gedson will always be the worst. Im sure he must have been Jorge Mendes' mistresses' son or something. He definitely wasn't a footballer

Not even close...

Gilberto
Rasiak
Toda
Khumalo
Postigo
N'Jie
N'Koudou
Ndombele
Frazier Campbell
Pienaar
Dozzell
Candy
Paulihno
Nethercott
Tremazzani
Naughton
Mabizela
Blondel
Rocha
Alnwick
Vega
Kerslake
Gedson
Dozzell is an interesting one. I was a kid at the time but he was very highly sought after and had huge potential at Ipswich. Games weren’t televised then like they are now but my memory of him was that he did actually score a decent few goals for us. Yet every match going fan of the time I speak to thinks he was dreadful. Was he that bad?

You're more generous than me. I don't think he's worked hard for months, in fact he seems to 'half-arse' it too often.

Not sure Ange could know that he would end up so absolutely short on confidence and flow this season.

I know others think this is just the player he is, but to me this is not the player we had on loan last season.

Makes a lot of sense that we're looking for a versatile attacker. But also think Moore will start taking some of those minutes.
Yeah but that's the coaches role to develop players, change their attitudes, find new ways to get them going.

I think Redknapp and Poch had the most influence on player development that I have seen. A number of players under them found their unique styles that would make them extremely good because they pushed their strengths further. The teams under them were larger than the individual players too.

Pochettino had players he wasn't able to do that with too.

Some of the work that's being done with our young players seems to be really good. Not just the teenagers, but players like VdV, Spence, Udogie, Sarr. I know there will be ups and downs, but Ange has taken these players and fairly quickly made them regulars and starters.

Of course the perspective can then be that they're just that good. Not on Ange and the coaching staff at all. Which arguably is a perspective that could be taken with Pochettino on some of his players too.

Seems to be that we're moving in a good direction. But like at times under Pochettino too many key profiles missing or not on their game and we struggle.

To me the team is more than the sum of the parts when we're playing well. But the inconsistency needs to be sorted out.

Poch at least got us on an upward trajectory in a pretty linear fashion. It was only at the end - and the 3 windows of no transfers - that he failed to refresh the squad.

we have much better players overall now and we are too easily beaten by teams outside the top 6. it seems that the players only get fired up when playing top teams, and that is of course not ange's intention.
