I think that is a bit of an odd thing to say considering how many top African and South American players that have moved to European clubs at a young age and have gone on to be very, very good.

Those who make it are a very small minority. Most of them end up on the streets of Belgium, France and other countries that are less strict on work permits, while the middle men pocket the money.

Absolutely. But it is not a freak occurrence for a young African player to make it in Europe.

If properly scouted and not purchased in bulk to see if anyone works out, yes. You really need to look after them outside of training as well though.

Sorry I didn't qualify my statement, I meant in Briton, but even in Europe few come through who have come over while in their teens. Sure we all know the hits but know nothing of the volume that have failed.

That applies to every single potential footballer in the world though, irrespective of nationality.

Nigerian youngster Victor Osimhen will join Tottenham after sealing transfer – report

Tottenham have completed the signing of Nigerian youngster Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

Osimhen, 16, was the star of Nigeria’s recent Under-17 World Cup triumph, with the forward scoring ten goals in seven games at the tournament, including one in the final against Mali.

Tottenham were reported to have opened talks with the player’s representatives during the competition, and according to AS he will now join Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Osimhen’s compatriot Kelechi Nwakali – who was voted player of the tournament – is also understood to be on his way to the Premier League with Emirates Marketing Project.

If this compilation of Osimhen’s goals at the World Cup is anything to go by, Spurs have picked themselves up a serious talent…

Reminds me of Efan Ekoku

Apparently Harry Winks and Shayon Harrison joined the full England squad for training this morning.

What a great experience for the two of them.

Back from the Amex for the England under 21's really poor crowd, really poor game, not impressed one bit by any of the England players. I guess this is the start of a new cycle and they will improve, otherwise things are worse then I realised.

As for Solly March who I have seen for Brighton and now again for England, well stone me down but I do not see a footballer in there, I know players improve but how he even gets in Brightons team is beyond me.

What's the Amex like? I've not been to Brighton since they were in the old Goldstone Ground which was very dated.

Normally a lovely stadium but it felt quiet tonight as the were only 10,000 in a 30,000 stadium. But the ground is a nice well built stadium, the club also has plans to build a hotel on land next to it which will have in the basement a new specialist cancer centre with a new way of targeting cells using radiation or something. It will be let out on the NHS.

I have a soft spot for Brighton, I lived there for 7 years and now I am in Bramber which is about 10 miles away. It is a nice club that went through a lot but has finally found a home. They do an awful lot for the community, I was also given a tour of the training ground by someone who works for the first team so I am actually told some behind the scenes stuff but never transfers as he would lose his job.

One thing of note, is that Brighton despite a troubled past now have their share of glory hunting fans who were moaning non stop last season at their poor league performance, this less then a decade after nearly going out of business, shows what some fans are like.

Defensive midfield position is a bit different. You would know better than me, is it really unfair to rate Amos ahead of Veljkovic in that position? I've seen some very positive reports on Amos in the past, only seen him once myself (vs. Chel53a u21 iirc) and thought he looked promising for sure.

I like Amos a lot but I would say it's unfair given Veljkovic has been a consistent high-performer for a while now and he's also played at much higher levels than Amos(u20 World Cup, U21s for Serbia, Championship briefly and Premier League very briefly). Two things Amos has over him though is he's more mobile and he's more outwardly aggressive, it's arguable whether the latter is a positive or a negative but it is a characteristic that Pochettino likes from his players so that may be why he apparently prefers him over Veljkovic. He's currently playing left back for the u21s which isn't really his position but as long as he's playing he's learning and developing. Lesniak who it was thought would opt to leave in the summer ended up staying, he's stepped up his game this season and seems to be 1st choice DM but long term I think Amos will be the better player though personally.
