The transfer thread

January window is more about opportunities than priorities anyway.

A good handful of squad roles that would be useful to find another signing in. We should sign players for any of those roles where the best opportunity for a signing that makes sense short and long term is possible.

Fixing a problem is more important than what problem is fixed in January and where we are right now.

I would agree if it was established that there is -by context- trust in what we're doing. I am not sensing that. Here's to me being wrong!

Despite people saying to the contrary, we play less through him than we do with Vic. He has been less commanding than Vic. He his distribution has been worse. He has made some great saves, equally he has made some mistakes/been slow to ground for some goals. I do not remember him saving a 1 on 1 yet. I think a short-term keeper is very important.

Sadly, I have little faith that this lot are going to get players in as we need them. It was clear in mid-November where our issues were going to be, you'd have thought we'd have done the groundwork on some deals. Granted, the club operate quietly these days, but I still don't see much in the way of support for Postecoglu from the club beyond the sqwuad. This whole scenario has a nasty air of inevitability.

Vic is a very good keeper (despite some contrary opinions) and affects the way we play.

The next two weeks will be very telling, it's clear the squad & manager need help, there is a team very much in place for this now.
- Don't think the club wont add to squad, the type/quality/loan or buy will be insightful
- The question is how much does the club believe in Ange at this point, do you spend money that might affect summer transfers or not?

The inevitability is there, we have been here before, said it elsewhere, next 4 games will determine a lot.

Tomori would be a great fit

Here's my thoughts.

Not good enough for Chelsea, and now Milan are doing better he's on the bench. On top of that hamstring injuries recently. When I watched him I noticed he's right footed, and that's where we have a bunch of centre halves. He was also very uncultured and may struggle in our fast paced, one-touch football out of the defence.

He is a decent defender though, and has a bit of pace from what I remember.

For me, we now need to start getting into the same mode as the top sides have done. You can't compromise on attributes as much as this if you really want to become a top side. You have to buy for what you need.

I doubt Tomori would come up in our scouting data model.

IMO he would be Chelsea’s best CB
Their weakness is their defence
At Milan it’s a case of a change of manager.. again, rather than him IMO
For a 4th choice here who could be relied upon it would be a great move for us

But he has 2 1/2 years left on his contract. It will be a decent chunk of money.

Why wouldn't we top that up and get Guehi or Branthwaite? We'll still end up with a 4th choice centre half even if it's not one of them.

Braithwaite isn’t all that IMO
Had a decent 6 months and the hype crept in
Tomori is great and just under rated because he hasn’t played here

He always plays LCB or LB, even though he's right footed. Same as King did.

I think for that Lloyd Kelly/Joe Gomez utility role, for under £20m, he'd be a decent option.

If we are losing Romero, we've got to go all out for Guehi in the summer (as well)

I do like Braithwaite. He reminds me a bit of Dawson. Him and Guehi should become England's medium term pairing. But Guehi is the King of the duo (style wise and the better quality one).

Tomori I'd maybe use for us primarily at LB if he came in on a permanent/beyond this current CB crisis

Branthwaite is a £20m player if there wasnt the English tax

Honestly mate, I don't care what Rashford does, as long as it's not related to Spurs.

He's a player in his prime that despite playing almost a decade of top level football hasn't found consistency, seemingly motivation, doesn't seem willing to lead/take responsibility on pitch, and can't stay out of the press. All while being paid an outrageous salary.

Maybe he goes on to do something spectacular, maybe he fades out like just another overhyped English player, don't care, he's just the kind of risk Spurs can't afford.
It's not even a risk. It's a certain disaster.

Why don't we just give Saudi Sportswashing Machine a bit of money so that Lloyd Kelly can do the Lloyd Kelly role?

You know after the whole Lloyd Kelly (perfect LB who can also play CB) saga... He's actually been pretty brick for Saudi Sportswashing Machine so far
I think its perhaps just the utility player never gets a run of games to get momentum thing. Gomez has been a bit the same

Exactly.
And contrary to opinion, we have had to adapt much of what we do to accommodate his absence.

As for 'the question' you ask, absolutely on point. It is simply about that at this point.

I have said many times that the club needs to believe in the groundplan initiated when Postecoglu was hired. That means Munn/Lange (who I remain unconvinced have true power). If we were to not give Ange reinforcements and up the ante on youth by blooding/forcing more kids to learn fast in the hope it matures them for next season, then Ange should also get next season because clearly, we would be giving up on anything ror this season. If we did take that approach and dismissed him in the summer, that would essentially mean we've hung him out to dry since mid-November.

The next two weeks are going to tell us an awful lot. Not on the pitch, off it.
