The transfer thread

There are only a tiny number of players that can address that issue (KWP, Edwards, Cirkin, Winks, Skipp, Kane). One is massively unrealistic and most of the rest wouldn’t improve us. Though I do think KWP would be a sensible signing to cover both left and right fullback positions.

We can also naturally perform better in the Europa by having a bigger PL squad which will mean the players are less fatigued for the Europa (as well as for the PL so win-win). There are also players we could swap out if the Europa squad for better/fitter ones while we retain the swapped out players in the PL squad.

Having 3 spaces for overseas players in the PL squad is massive (4 if we consider Regi to be a persona non grata). We also have 4 keepers in there so could not register one of those to register another association trained player.

If the club is serious about success then there is loads of wiggle room at Spurs in terms of spaces for players. Especially as all the youngsters in the squad are still u21 players next season.

The size of the wage bill and PSR is also not an excuse for us.
That’s a bigger picture discussion
The fact we named 4 keepers shows how it was viewed at the time
Now it’s our only route or the CL the club need to be smart in those decisions
Having ahh squad spaces spare for any comp is nuts and is borderline neglect

I don't rate KWP at this level. His size is still a massive issue, he just gets bullied.

Madueke (RW), Berchiche (LB) and Archer (GK) are three other possible CT options

Even with two other first team keepers still in the 25 man squad? I’m not convinced.
@Finney Is Back @Chrissivad I believe number of competitive games at top level is considered, so I think we'd get it.

Edit: Found some stuff on it.
You would qualify if " all the professional goalkeepers at a club are unavailable,’ due to being unfit to play, suspension or international duty."

A ‘professional goalkeeper’ is classed as a player who has been named in the starting eleven on five or more occasions for a Premier League or EFL club in any competitions - excluding the Papa John’s Trophy.

Not really, I think it's absolutely right that if we took that approach they get match time. The big detail is that I am not sure Veliz, ect, are ready. Or ever will be!

So looks like I'm not the only one that thinks we've bought a dud in Veliz. I think he'll be shifted for a loss in the summer.

I still think we need to stick to the long term plan, rather than worry about a few current injuries. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Who would we buy if we were at full strength? That's the best question we can answer right now.

If we landed Dorgu, I wouldn't be unhappy. Same as Mitchell or Estupinan if we want to get PL experience.
If we are serious about Buonanotte or Dibling, but can't get them until the summer, also good with that.
If we went all in for Branthwaite or Mbuemo, I would be ecstatic.
Joao Gomes would also look good in an Ange system. He'd be the heartbeat of our team.

So we would qualify

So, we are looking to sign the below:

Sam Johnston (Wolves) GK
Patrick Dorgu (Lecce) LB/DF
Angel Gomes (Lilles) DF
Ben Godfrey (Atalanta) DF
Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan) DF
Milan Skriniar (PSG) DF
Omar Alderete (Getafe) DF
Enzo Millot (Stuttgart) MF
Maxence Caqueret (Lyon) MF
Jack Grealish (Emirates Marketing Project) MF/Winger
Kolo Muani (PSG) CF
Evan Ferguson (Brighton) CF

Noting we will sign all of the above, but wondering who else we will sign on top of those?

There will be a huge fail rate in that list if we sign these permanently - Johnstone, Gomes, Godfrey, Tomori, Skriniar and Grealish.

It will be more of the same that we've seen for years.

No chance in hell any GK would have saved that shot. I was a one in a million hit. No one would have had time to react to that.

I thought the at the time, there are some shots which are saved by keeper being in the way of them, not saving them. I think keepers are beaten on near post when strikere waits for them to commit to cross shot, on this occasion the Wolves player appeared to just hit it as hard as he could and hope without looking at keepers position.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't managed to sign all of them and I'm currently composing a tome of blame of Levy and management team in preparation.

That reads like the line-up that got Middlesbrough relegated in 2026/27

I’d argue the opposite. He isn’t interested in earning 4 times his take home salary in Saudi as he wants to try to pay his way back into the England set-up. I’d be far more worried about signing him if he was happy to move to Saudi.

I guarantee that if he had accepted a move to Saudi then you would be arguing the opposite and saying that showed why we were right not to go for him as his hunger has gone and he’s just after money.

Honestly mate, I don't care what Rashford does, as long as it's not related to Spurs.

He's a player in his prime that despite playing almost a decade of top level football hasn't found consistency, seemingly motivation, doesn't seem willing to lead/take responsibility on pitch, and can't stay out of the press. All while being paid an outrageous salary.

Maybe he goes on to do something spectacular, maybe he fades out like just another overhyped English player, don't care, he's just the kind of risk Spurs can't afford.
