The transfer thread

When I’ve seen Bakayoko he reminds me of Doku… I don’t think that’s a good fit myself
We need a man who will beat players but one who makes smart choices with their passing
He may well be the answer but what little I’ve seen of him I’ve not seen the smart play
I thought we had been linked to zhergrova as that’s how I’d heard of him but I can’t find it
Notihng like Doku IMO. Doku's game was all about beating players but his final product was always patchy. Bakayoko doesn't have the same ability to beat a player from a standing start that Doku has but has decent end product.

What I'm hearing....

Juve paid PSG a £10m loan fee
Muani got a £2m signing on fee from Juve
Juve will pay the £4m in wages

So Juve have just paid £16m for 4 months work. No wonder PSG weren't so worried about the permanent clause.

Muani also only wanted Juve.

I'm glad my club don't get into these types of deals. No doubt we put together a completely different structure of package and it didn't work this time. So we move on.
If that is true then I suspect Juve have also negotiated an option fee that probably is reduced by the £10m loan fee.

Richard Rios is an interesting one. I think that Flamenco originally spotted at a futsal tournament when he was 18.

The problem with trying to get him now is that Palmeiras have the club World Cup tournament coming up and want to do well in that. Could be one to sign now to bring in this summer.

A work permit might be an issue too for someone without much international pedigree (due to being a late bloomer)?

If we're looking for a right wing forward that can also play as the centre forward in our system then I think we're really going to struggle to find anyone. Personally, in the medium to long term, I think we'd be much better off signing competition for the number 9 role (Delap from Ipswich would be my number one choice by a long way here) and then also signing a new right winger.

Assuming we don't have mega money to spend and still need to strengthen a few areas of the team and squad here are a couple of right wing options that might work....

Johan Bakayoko - 21 year old Belgian winger at PSV, fast, skillful, beats players, creates goals and scores goals. Looks to me as though he'd have no problem handling the physicality of English football. Think he'd cost at least £40m though.

Alternatively a cheaper option would be Edon Zhegrova - a 25 year old Kosovan at Lille, very good at beating players 1 v 1, probably gettable for £20m.

If looking to the championship then the best right winger is probably Wilfried Gnoto at Leeds. Though with Leeds chasing promotion I doubt anything other than an over the top bid would get him.
I agree. I think the upsides for a versatile player is only real if they're also really good in both positions (or at the very least one of them). Same for a LB/CB hybrid. If the right versatile player can't be found I think we're better off fixing one problem than half fixing two by signing a versatile player that's almost good enough in two positions.

Can't see Delap moving this window for anything close to reasonable, but maybe come the summer.

Talk is city will activate a buy back on delap and sell him on

He played 16 times for Colombia in 2024 and 3 games in 2023. Don't know whether that counts as enough in the system or not.

It's probably just more recycled rumours, especially as he signed a new contract in September. Wouldn't surprise me if we were looking at him in the summer though.

I thought when he came on for Roma at our place Saelemaekers looked super technical and skilful. Plays on either side and behind the CF. (...and yes YouTube has confirmed this:))

Technical and super comfortable on the ball is definitely high on the tick box list for anyone we are looking at signing.

Ademola Lookman is somebody else that might be a sensible signing if we're looking for a player that can play wide or through the middle come the summer. He only has 18 months left on his contract at Atalanta now so might not be a huge fee come the summer.

What we need to decide as a club is do we what a one on one guy or a versatile forward like Richy
Muani is like the latter
Arguably Mbuemo is too but better
Always likes Lookman. He is another similar to these but with the added benefit of Hg status there are options
If money was no object the best signing IMO Is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens… goals and dribbly guy
