The transfer thread

I wonder if his rumoured 200k wages figured into any decision? Perhaps the thought was we'd sign him and pay those wages but offload Werner and his wages. Perhaps Werner's injury scuppered it?
Don’t think so
If I was guessing … the wages aren’t an issue for such a short period
My guess is we enquired and asked to be kept informed but that’s it
I can’t remember who said it on your pod but they were right in that none of our deals are public anymore
We keep them quieter than anyone now it seems

Everything agreed with both, he just choose a different club by sounds of it. It happens

In all honesty I will say again, there are red flags with him for me, 1 and half stand out seasons by 26 isn't great, not sure I want us getting failures at bigger clubs as our record is more miss than hit, not saying we would do this but I would much prefer us go for a Mbuema or Kudus in the summer. players on the up curve than down.

Its a quality game for me now, not a numbers one

It’s numbers for me
If getting Muani in now meant we couldn’t get any long term target in then it’s a no
If it wasn’t the case then it’s a missed one then it happens

Numbers in the short-term, quality in the medium to long term. If the two can align (like with Kinksky) then great!

We are short up front because expecting Richarlison to stay fit makes no sense.
We are short at left back because we have gone into the season with only one viable left back at the club, so in an even worse situation than up-front where there is at least a slim chance that Richarlison will stay fit.

Getting short term options for those two positions would be a sensible thing to do if the long term options are not available in January (as they are unlikely to be)

A player like Chilwell on loan would be an incredibly sensible thing for the club to do. Yes he earns a big wage but we have a tiny wage bill compared to our rivals and can more than afford 6 months of Chilwell's wages.

The chickens came home to roost on a lack of long term planning for me, no replacement for Kane, we look in the same situation with Son although the argument will be made that we got two youngsters (not the same for me, although I value the youngsters) but its not the same to lose a player of that status and not get someone in, we had 10 years to plan.

The planning does seem to be getting better and the logics around the squad seem more joined up, but we need better quality now, no doubt in my mind on that.

I like Chilwell but he his injury record resembles that of a human cannonball

I think we have to look at what we've paid for Richi, Johnson and Solanke and accept the market rate for these attacking players.

Then have a big think about whether we want Mbuemo or not. If we do, then get the offer in now. Don't wait until the summer.

The league table doesn't lie though. We've scored more goals without Kane last season, even in a season where Richi had injury problems. We now have Solanke and are second highest scorers in the league, even though we're mid table. I think Ange should be highly praised for losing a 30 goal man and seamlessly carrying on. I've said this before, but Kane's assists dried up to 3 goals in 38, and he was indirectly culpable for a bunch of goals in our net by not defending from the top. The only thing I miss about Kane is his finishing. He really wasn't offering much else and would only touch the ball 30 times a game. I don't think his team mates appreciated doing all that water carrying for him either. What we have now is much more solid.

It would be nice to see Son's replacement appear around about now admittedly. Missing out on Luis Diaz was painful, and also the reason why I think we should go in for Mbuemo. At 25, he could be just what we need.

As for Chilwell, feel the same. If we're keeping Reggie until the summer, then just use him. He's a good guy.

I doubt we'd get a better loan LB in now than Regulion to be honest. Might as well wait till the summer with that, unless Palace are open to a reasonable deal on Mitchell with 6 months on his contract.

But you want to replace your good players with good players, I doubt Ange wanted to lose Kane the day before the season started and wait a year for a replacement even though we were able to Moneyball it and replace him in the aggregate

I'm a Mitchell fan, but do wonder about him as a fit for Ange. He comes across as a very orthodox and very good LB. He's had the better of Johnson when we've played them.

Ideally the replacement should already be there when a top player is sold, already integrated. And if not a player in the same position someone a different position already ready to take that responsibility.

Planning seems much better now and the main point for me is that we have to keep that up. We need better quality now, but any player we spend real money on fitting the requirements medium to long term is more important than the short term. Ideally both of course, as we seemingly have with Kinsky. Rather another Gray or Bergvall than someone who is better short term, but without medium to long term upside.

That also includes injury track record. We can't afford to spend real money on someone with consistent injury problems.

Yeah, good with that. Solanke a year earlier would have probably seen us in CL. So would a fully fit Richi all season.

I guess we should remember where that Kane money went as well. Some of these talents we now watch came from that money e.g. Venom, VDV.

Both are very much strikers though and Solanke is fine. He's not a weak point in the team or squad whereas the right hand side definitely is. Muani is primarily a rwf who could cover striker as well, neither of the guys you mentioned play the same role. So we are looking for a RWF with versatility it seems rather than a an outright no9 which the guys you mentioned are.

Yep. We'll be looking more at someone like bakayoko.
