The transfer thread

Think it's more to do with either the transfer fee, wages or both tends to be out of our range or at least what we are willing to pay for that player. Eg Sterling I imagine is on a shed load at the Goons, for being a squad player whereas the sort of wage he is on we would only pay for one of our best first teamers (if we would pay it at all).....
The Levy factor then, although I still think that they wouldn't give us the steam off their tinkle. :p

More that after Ndombele a player with such widely reported attitude problems is not a potential issue that many would like us to take on.
His attitude was at United
A club run by idiots and managed by one too
I’d take that view on anyone going through there

Chelsea are paying sterlings wages or the vast majority
That was widely reported

Which is why clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea regularly win trophies and we don’t….

I'd rather take the risk on a Sancho then waste it on a Werner. One has a massive potential upside and downside tbf the other just has downsides.

I'd rather neither tbh :tearsofjoy:

Sancho is an easy one to say as it's not us personally taking the risk - the outcry if we had signed him, with the red flags he has, for him to carry on how he was at United would be (rightly) off the charts - a high earning playing with known attitude problems - the due dillingence talk would be endless

lol…. ‘Outcry’…. I think 95% of our fans would’ve been delighted.

We’ve gone into the season without using our full quota of 25 players in the PL squad despite being in the new extended Europa League!…. Madness!

Meh, I don't care about outcrys or fan wailing. I really only care about the club doing things that take us forward. I was someone willing to sell Kane to City the first time (for the right fee), I also suggested looking into selling Son (despite him being my favourite Tottenham player) about a year and a half ago.

If Sancho could add the quality that this side needed I really wasn't that bothered with happened at United as they are a basket case and even more of a shambles than we regularly have been.

I do think what you've said is fair in regards going for someone else but we didn't. If we are doing a thought experiment back in the summer of Werner or Sancho it would have been Sancho every single time for me. I think Sancho suits the football Ange wants to play whereas United play quick transition hoofs, which certainly didn't suit him.

I'm talking about if Sancho had come here and been a bad egg - with the well publicised red flags regarding his attitude there would certainly have been outcry about us taking a punt on such a player. People still talk about us not looking in to the Ndombele transfer well enough

The thing with fan response or complaining etc is as I think we've had this discussion before over the years. It doesn't matter if the player is successful, people only complain when the transfers don't work. If they work the fans very quickly get behind the player and how they got tona team is quickly forgotten.

if, if, if…. We don’t spend the money to get the guaranteed players so have to take some risks. Sancho on loan was not a risk of any real magnitude (neither would Sterling have been). Unless of course ourse you feel that us breaking the 45% wage to turnover ratio ceiling is a risk?

But our TO is now roughly the same as Arsenal and Chelsea
And we don’t see any money out via ENIC
So what happens?
What aren’t we spending as much as them
Can’t be the stadium loan as we don’t pay much out on that interest

This is a key comment. Key.

The single biggest issue (IMO anyway I should say) about the Ndombele deal was that we spent a large amount of money on a mecurial and very special talent for a very specific manager. We made a deal with that manager for him to continue, and then made this purchase as a player he really wanted. We then sacked the manager three months in. Ndombele was always going to need a specific type of man-management, so if there'd been the slightest doubt over Poch's tenure, then we should simply not have signed him.

It’s been reported that ARSEnal are covering somewhere between 33-50% of Sterling’s £365k weekly salary, which is similar to the deal Dortmund had when they loaned back Sancho; so if we’re paying all of Werner’s £165k per week then he might actually the most expensive of those 3 players in the short term plus being our 3rd biggest earner!

Guess the clincher is the option / obligation to buy at the end of that trio’s loan spells.

Good points. Only Sancho has an obligation to buy with a pretty cheap deal in terms of the transfer fee.
