The transfer thread

Spence wouldn’t get as many games. You haven’t been impressed with him at LB?

Yes he will but he’s ample cover in the interim.

We need a top quality senior midfielder. Gray certcan bolster our options in midfield, but it’s too much to expect him to deliver at a top level consistently. Time, rotation and patience. When we need quality in midfield right now! Maybe Gray can step up and deliver but it is a risk and it’s unfair pressure on an 18 year old imo.

Spence is not a LB and 'does a job' there. This is about getting a specialist LB to push/rotate with Udogie. Reguillion is on the way out so we will need to be a LB anyway.

I agree we need a top quality senior midfielder, but Gray was bought with that in mind, not to be a rotation option at LB and he is actually no better than Spence there anyway and when Udogie is out (and MVDV) our left hand side suffers in general due to not having an actual LB there.

What would you do with Spence, limit his game time again? And Reggie, just leave him out? Or Gray who’s been getting useful minutes and doing well. You’d bench these players and add a 20m signing to our bench with Udogie and Spence having played pretty well.

Crazy. I’m glad fans are not running the show!
Spence plays right back
He alternates with Porro
It’s his position.

Spence: Have him and Porro fighting for a place on the right
Regi: Yes, just leave him out. He isn't good enough. That is now a few managers in a row that haven't wanted him and (thankfully) he is off this summer.
Gray: Play him in midfield, which is his natural position, alternatively play him at centre back where he has been needed and filled in well.

Was he really that bad for us? I haven't seen him play for us. Looked decent at Fulham.

I have only seen him a couple of times, but played with his head down.

You could see players around him get frustrated when he got the ball and just ran with it. Often ending up with no where to go as he wasnt looking.

Ange in the presser on whether we will bring in someone or not:

"I would be disingenuous if I said right now anything other than nothing is imminent but that doesn't mean opportunities aren't being explored. Right now, the club is trying everything in its power to get someone in and help these players."

I find it odd if we do indeed sell this in as someone to "help" our players, doesn't sound too great of a reason for someone to join.

He would be a 6 month loan.... hardly going to cripple us financially and if he doesn't work hard then he doesn't play.

I think Rashfoard will now have a massive point to prove and give whoever he goes to 6 months' hard work.
Do you think he needs a change of manager, because he's had a few of those at united. Who is he proving the point to, because it's not the manager?

I doubt that's how it's being "sold" in any conversations with actually good players we'd want to sign regardless.

I doubt it too, but it's kind of what we signal by saying it publicly. I'm sure anyone interested in joining us wouldn't mind either way though.
Ange speaks to players he wants directly as do most managers these days and I imagine the conversation is somewhat more visionary than 'Help us'. Do you honestly think potential targets sit there picking apart Ange's press conference comments in the same way some of our fans do? I'd suggest not.....

Haha, I don't know, man, maybe if they're on the verge of signing for us.

Just factually wrong. Played in the last game.
Oh wow he played the last match after being left out all season when we were down to the bare bones. He's clearly not rated by Ange.
Spence has done well at LB and Gray was covering Porro. You don’t remember Spence’s mom performances!?
Who said I didn't rate his performances, I said he's needed on the right. Have you not seen how poor Porro has been performing due to the lack rest, especially in recent months. He needs rotation he needs competition and we have that. His name is Spence however he's stuck playing on the left because Ange doesn't rate Reggie.
Again factually wrong. Both are decent at LB but there are two maybe three players ahead of them anyway!
Nothing factual about it. It's your opinion that Gray has been good at LB it's my opinion that's he's pretty awful there, backed up by the performances I have watched.
Longer term in the summer - yes. For now midfield, attack and possibly CB are much more important!
A LB is just as important, but I'm not arguing for what players we get this window (I have doubts we get anyone 😅) but instead talking about a position that isn't covered and a position we do need fresh blood in. Let's not forget that even a fit Udogie has been let's be honest quite brick this season and I say that as someone who is a big fan of him. He needs genuine competition so that he does get a rest and in those periods we're he's not up to his usual standard we have a good quality alternative available and I'd rather that not be Spence because there's nothing to say Spence shouldn't be starting on the right. He can't do that if he's always covering the left.
