The Official 2014/15 Premier League Thread

they were pretty loose at the start of the season when fabregas was racking up all those assists

only city have scored more goals this season iirc

fwiw, i actually dont mind watching them. but theyre only as attractive as they are because of the individuals they have. ie. they are about as unattractive as you can be whilst still being a top class team (in terms of results).

i dont think the number of goals scored is that relevant here. attractive football is about more than just the goals scored stat imo. stoke have scored more than a lot of prem teams, but there are probably a some sides who have scored less that most would find more appealing than watching stoke.

the individuals Jose puts in the line up and instructs?

you are right there actually, goals are almost totally irrelevant, all that matters is that you get one more than the opposition

that's fine though isn't it, when United or Liverpool win ugly they are lauded for it, the sign of champions apparently

im not sure about liverpool, but with man utd their overall football identity was about playing expansively and launching long balls from the touchline. back in the day this was viewed as attractive. ie. man utd's identity was about playing attractive attacking football. thats what they revert to in their "natural state". mourinhos side's natural state is to revert to playing a negative brand of football. i think this is the difference. everyone accepts that you need to lockdown wins every so often, but with chelsea, this is their identity

F#ck me get in.

Massive win for Hull. 5th up for grabs again now, and some twitchy bums down at the bottom now. best relegation battle for years.

And the pendulum swings again.
Hull v Burnley
Sunderland v Leicester City
Mega matches at the foot.

Although they won tonight, unfortunately for us. because of Sunderland's midweek match v Arsenal on 20th, cant see Hull being mathematically safe when they come to WHL on the 16th

Once they ran out of steam it was back to the old grinding wins out.

In a lot of ways I think that's fine. To have a solid defensive unit game plan to fall back on when things aren't working isn't a bad thing. Neither is grinding out results when a league title is on the line. As someone said on the football weekly podcast had Liverpool done that last season they probably would have won it...

What I don't like about Mourinho is when that defensive first attitude becomes the default throughout a season with excellent attacking players in the squad. Have to say getting Fabregas and pairing him with Matic in central midfield was a good step in the right direction in terms of somewhat entertaining football.

Should be some entertaining RAWK copy-pastes to look forward to :)

Running out of steam or doing as much as they needed to to wrap up the league? They are 10 points clear let's not forget. I think they have another level to go to if they really needed to. Granted they left it late against QPR, but they got a point at the library with relative ease on Sunday despite scum throwing everything at them.
