The Goon Thread

He's never back from injury. Anyway in sure his latest dope smoking regime will get him back fussing around the centre circle in no time. I hate that glass ankle mug

I'd like to spend 5 minutes on a football pitch with him. Let him worry about his girly little ankles for a while.

No. Your reputation is what people think of you because of what you are.

And Jack Wheelchair is a clam.

Did anyone else here Piers Morgan talking on Talksport last night? I was on the road, travelling back from Birmingham & had the radio on. Piers Morgan was speaking on the phone-in programme with Stan Collymore. As usual Piers Morgan came across as a deluded clam who thinks that Arsenal have a right to be successful & should be challenging for the title. He said that he wants Wenger sacked & wants Klopp instead. He said Arsenal should have an open cheque book for transfers, couldn't seem to understand the difference between Chelsea/City & Arsenal in terms of finances, and then said he wouldn't want Klopp sacked if, like with Doetmund, Klipp took Arsenal to the league title & then to a relegation fight within six seasons...

In the times today they were suggesting that Arsenal might sell wiltshire which would make sense as he is cack.

The pub I watched the game in the Arsenal fans sat around clapping every tackle or pass that Arsenal made and they always looked round to see that people were watching them. It is something I have noticed a lot with Arsenal fans they all seem like posers, not real football fans. It is like they want to support a football team because football is part of the culture of the country. But they do not actually like football and there trying to behave like "fans" They all seemed to some how just not fit.

A right bunch of Roger Nouveaus...

Arsene Wenger warned Tottenham it would be “dangerous” to read too much into their victory.

Spurs leapfrogged their London neighbours as they try to finish above Arsenal for the first time in 20 years.

But Wenger is convinced Arsenal will bounce straight back as he prepares to start fit-again Alexis Sanchez against Leicester in midweek.

The Gunners boss said: “Yeah, of course, it is dangerous. But the fact is we lost a game and we cannot deny that.

“But overall there’s a long way to go, so I believe just keep going and recover, show quickly a strong response on Tuesday and then we see where we stand after that. It’s not the first time we lose a game, but how we bounce back is to take the information from what we got at Tottenham and respond very quickly

“One player who has a chance to be on the bench or to start maybe is Sanchez. We have been consistent recently, but it was a big game.

"And again, when it was tense, we did make the mistake that you cannot afford and it’s a bit disappointing to concede the second goal.”

Wenger was unhappy with his side – and referee Martin Atkinson. He added: “We made too many technical mistakes. We lost too many balls where we could have put Tottenham in trouble.

"And the Spurs defensive pressure, especially Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb. They got away with a lot today, especially Mason.”

don't chelsea really only have 2 centre backs too though? and overall, they have similar numbers to arsenal in defense. its just that no-one has really got injured for chelsea and their players are of a higher calibre (which is to be expected given that they are a richer club)

Rather shockingly Arsenal ended up buying another defender in the transfer window, Chelsea on the other hand did not.

Ready to admit that the comparison was far fetched yet?

Decades as a PL manager, almost a decade of limited success at best now, and it takes the players demanding a change of style for the big games for Wenger to change his mind instead of just going away to top teams and get beaten...

I really think Wenger is past it. If I'm right I hope he stays on for a while.

I'm amazed it he admitted that publicly. For an intelligent manager/coach to not see how that statement made him look a little clueless is quite baffling.

No, i still think the comparison is valid. chelsea still have less defenders than other teams in their competition bracket (bayern, utd, city, etc). much like arsenal also did. but that isnt to say that either chelsea or arsenal had not enough numbers in defense. just that they had less compared to their rivals.

lots of teams have player meetings. i suspect all teams do infact.

on a side note, i highly doubt that arsenal will be succesful long term playing like they did vs city. they effectively tried something similar vs us and we were on top of them for the whole game. vs city, they got v.lucky imo. city's confidence is not at its highest atm, and yet i thought the game was very even. neither side created much. and arsenal benefitted from 2 set plays. in open play they created nothing (just like they created nothing vs us). although they didnt look too shaky defensively vs city, against us, it was a different story. in short, with players like ozil, cazorla, ramsey, bellerin, gibbs, walcott, arteta etc i dont think playing with a really deep defensively line is something that they really want to pursue long term. these players mean that they will always be shaky defensively, but playing like they did vs us and city will mean that they will stifle their own creative players too. its quite funny to see arsenal fans deluding themselves over their city performance, as if it is some template for them to challenge man utd, city and chelsea. its just one performance where they got "lucky". and because it was a shift from their usual tactics, they think all of a sudden it is some sort of long term solution.

So they had enough defenders, yet still chose to sign a new defender that probably won't come in and be an immediate upgrade this season.

Meanwhil, Chelsea, the comparison club, chose not to. Despite having one much older first choice centre back and one in struggling form.

Sure. Exactly the same situation...
