The Centre Back thread

One guy we should be looking at is Attila Szalai, from Fenerbahce. With Turkey's economic crisis, he might be available right now - and he's a superb young player. Big, lots of pace, good on the ball, left-footed, can play at CB and left-back and thus would be perfect to take over that role Davies plays.

Would be the type of signing that could end up a very canny move. Great name, too.
 
If Bastoni proves impossible that would be really unfortunate. But happy that we have Davies performing at a very high level so not as critical as it could have been.

Hope Paratici has good options on his list of targets in case Bastoni doesn't work out. I think he will have.

100%. Davies is a great back up and would get plenty of games still, but we need a left sided CB.

The below back line looks soo strong to me, just sort out the wing backs and we’d have a serious starting XI with a decent bench.

Romero - Dier - Bastoni
 
I still think if we don’t get Bastoni for circa £55m we should then get both Bremer and Gvardiol.

The main reason Inter want to flip Bastoni for Bremer is because Bremer is available on the cheap and whilst Gvardiol’s club will want a nice fee to convince them to sell I am sure our MDoF can do something around £45m for him. So around £75m for both players.

Dier has improved but if all it takes is £75m to create an amazing back three that will allow us to compete for all honours then we should do it imo.

Most speculation I've seen have indicated that Gvardiol may be even more expensive than Bastoni and harder to sign with several of the biggest clubs around monitoring his situation.

6 year contract. Seems happy where he is at the moment. Real allegedly want to give him another year.

He does look class though.

Get a commitment from the player and then squeeze RBL’s balls.

Both of those will be difficult to actually do. RBL haven't exactly shown themselves to be easy to squeeze. A top rated young prospect, already very good, convincing him that we're the right next step right to commit to will be no easier than with Bastoni I think.

If you think that's an option available to us, fair enough.

Need another for sure, but if we can't get a player we think can slot right in as first choice someone to compete with Davies, perhaps even an understudy with potential for the future would be a good enough solution.

I dont think Conte looks at potential, its now that counts with him and any signing apart from cover of keeper needs to be able to step right into the team.

Current ability has to be at a good enough level for sure. But if we can find a player that's good enough now, but also with potential that's obviously better. Bit like Kulusevski, even though he was better immediately than most of us expected, difficult to know what Conte and Paratici expected.

Just think that if we can't find an immediate upgrade on Davies that's fine, Davies is a very good player now for this system.

If that leaves us with more money to spend elsewhere we can still improve significantly short term. But I want Bastoni and think he probably our first choice target for a reason.
