The Centre Back thread

Ali Gold reporting we want two central defenders especially if someone from the current squad leaves. Also says bremer is available for £21m. I’m guessing this is some kind of release clause.

I think we will only get bastoni if he is willing and then keep many of the current back ups we have. Or we take bremer as it would be madness not to take such a talent for that fee and then the MDoF will find a left footed centre back that we haven’t really thought of who will be a slight upgrade on davies.

Yeah but I’d say that’s wrong, although he can and has played there
I watched them play about 8/9 times and he always played left
Rodriguez is the Swiss left wing back who we were linked with years ago
Who scored probably gave their data on when Torino play 4 at the back
Zima plays centre a lot and Bremer has too
Bremer imo wouldn’t suit us in the central role unless we move to a similar back 3 structure like Atalanta did
 
Ultimately I think we will end up with bastoni anyway as;

1. agent comments from yesterday
2. inter and bremer want each other
3. inter can flip bremer for bastoni and have about £30m change
4. inter can put more pressure on bastoni as he only has 2 years left and they can say they dont want to give him a new one

Why are these clubs on the continent forever skint? brick domestic tv deals?

In the case of inter they spent more than they had then Covid kicked in
And owners who were “dodgy” in that inter are a small part of their holding so the least priority
I think they shut down the Chinese teams they owned

Bremer likely wants to stay in Italy for another year to get his passport.
Pau Torres doesn’t excite me too much, looks decent, but won’t be that much of an upgrade on Davies IMO.

who else is out there in the elite level we need? I liked the sound of that Monaco defender Baladishe (sp?).
 
Surprised there's not more links with Koulibaly. He's got 1 year left on his contract and looks like he's going to leave Napoli, although he's constantly linked away.
Downside is he's 30, but he's very rarely injured.

I’ve never seen seen Badisahielle but I’ve only heard really good things

Disagree. In some situations you might get more passing angles, but not overall.

Would playing Romero at LCB and Davies at RCB give them both more passing angles?

Being right footed, with a good left foot and overtall very good on the ball would be fine. But not easy to find those centre backs. Left footed players would be a clear preference for me.

Badiashile would be a great option IMO... I've banged the Gvardiol drum before but seems like he's too far out of reach. Benoit is also left-footed, 21 but think he will be a monster.

I’ve only seen Gvardiol twice but the price is way way way above anything I’ve seen him show
They are talking £75m money
Bonkers IMO
He may well turn out to be amazing but I haven’t seen it in the few games I saw

Actually I forgot he played against rangers too and he didn’t shine in those games either from memory

Agree. If we're going for two CBs, get a defensive monster in Bremer and an up-and-coming LCB in Badiashile. He'll play behind Davies the first 1-2 seasons and then slot in for him.

Whatever happened to Romagnoli, by the way? His contract ends at the end of the month.

Those two combined would probably cost about the same as Bastoni on his own
