The all new Striker thread..

And if Kane gets injured? What option have we got on the bench if Kane does not deliver? if we are 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go, who do we chuck on to try and get a goal?

In the hypothetical situation that we have a deal outlined for our primary CF target but through outside influences it can't be completed till late in the window what would your solution be?

this approach never did Ferguson and Man Utd any harm....99 CL final is the biggest most famous example but there are many many examples of Ferguson throwing on an extra forward or two off the bench to rescue games.

look at the ability of those forwards though, we are not going to have ability like that on the bench

last season we had a kid called Harry Kane who came off the bench to help try and save our ass early on in the season. He didnt end up doing too bad did he.

right now even if we had Defoe on the bench right now it would be something....

DO you guys think Levy is adopting a policy of not buying strikers until we get rid of Soldado and Adebayor? Becuase if he is it is pathetic, and if he is not then what is the reason for this freakin' delay?

I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say it's the other clubs delaying us but none of us really knows.

I agree that not signing a striker before Saturday is unlikely to make a massive difference to our season, you're right in saying we had no other competent options last year.

I am not particularly bothered by the lack of signings, and don't think it's something we can blame the club for. When a deadline exists it is natural for business to be pushed back by all parties, it is one of the perils of the transfer window.

I just hope Kane doesn't pull a muscle 5 minutes into the United game!!

With you Pandy. IF Kane stays fit and keeps scoring then all of those who are telling us to "not panic" will have been right, but it's a big risk IMO. Same thing happened in 2012/13 when Ade went to the African nations and took about a week longer than expected to get home, we took the decision to stick with Defoe and not sign anyone and surprise surprise, he got injured.

A bit of a contradictory statement, given that a couple of posts easier you said we shouldn't panic, because others will score. And although I don't necessarily disagree with this statement, the question is who? It's not like we're super creative that it's just a matter of someone getting on to the end of a final pass. Unless we play Alli and move Mason further up the pitch. There's also Pritchard, but haven't seen enough of him in a Spurs shirt to say he could chip in too.

I think the contradiction is more on the fact that last season our top scorers were Kane, Eriksen and Chadli. All those players are still here. We're getting rid of Ade and potentially Soldado, neither of whom contributed much in the way of goals yet now it is a problem that we're going into the first game of the season with just one striker.

signing attacking players is going to solve only half the problem. I still think the way Poch has us playing in the attacking 3rd is not conducive to creating chances and looking a goal threat. We lack invention, ideas, movement in the final 3rd. So there is lots of work to do

That post was meant to be tongue in cheek. It's what others have said i.e. "don't panic" when questioning the transfer policy.

Although it's still not a case of sacrificing games. It's not ideal, but Chadli and Lamela can play upfront at a push.

Lamela has exhibited nothing to indicate he an play upfront as a striker and if we start the season with Chadli as backup to Kane then it is just rank bad management/forward planning

we'll start the season with Soldado as back up to Kane in the United game and then probably Berahino thereafter

Soldado hasn't trained in over week never went to America nor Germany .. No idea wtf is going on at Spurs ..all boils down to money in or out .. Every single time

he never went on tour but was last rumored to be out of the country a week or so ago so unless anyone knows otherwise id assume he was at the training ground.

i'll wager we'll have a new striker in the squad for Stoke at home

Mate you are a laugh, Soldado did not go to the US with the first team squad nor did he go to Germany. The chances are he has not trained with the first team for the past 3 weeks so I reckon the chnances of him starting the season as backup are pretty slim mate.

Even if you are right and I am wrong which is quite possible, do you personally have faith in Soldado to deliver when called upon. I have really wanted him to do well but I no longer have confidence in him, especially after "that" miss in the Europa Cup

I have confidence he can make it on to the pitch for 10 minutes at the end of the game if Kane's looking shattered - not much else though

We currently have no alternative but to have Soldado on the bench

If we have no striker in the bench against United Poch will look stupid if anything happens to Kane and it also means we desperate to get rid of Soldado which negates any bargaining power

You could technically have Ade on the bench, both of them are imminently about to depart so no difference which just people don't like Ade so by default he's not figured into the conversation.

Nothing to do with "people not liking him", the manager has explicitly said that Soldado might still feature this season, whereas Adebayor will not.

Soldado didn't travel with Spurs to the Audi Cup in Munich this week but Pochettino said: "Soldado is in my plans but he did not come here because there was a problem with his back - but he is in our plans."

Aston Villa target Emmanuel Adebayor and winger Aaron Lennon, who has been frozen out, are free to leave though. Pochettino said: "They are not in my plans. They know the situation - we have spoken with them and it's no problem."

I believe those are direct quotes in The Mirror, and there's not much ambiguity about them. I've always liked Lennon as a player, and I understand if there are those who still like Adebayor. But the manager is clear that neither will play for Spurs again. So best to just move on.

If Soldado is still here on Saturday then he is likely to be on the bench I would think. I suspect he's on his way out before the transfer window shuts, but Pochettino isn't ruling out using him until then (or even keeping him if the sale doesn't go through).
