The all new Striker thread..

Well there could be ambiguity in them. The first part of the quote could have read as the below for instance: (unlikely but rarely is a quote taken word for word when I've compared papers with an actual interview/press conference).

"They aren't in my plans at present but I'm always ready to have players in my squad who show the determination and attitude required". They

Worst case scenario, who else can we put up top (assuming no Soldado or Ade)?

Dembele (played there before)
Walker (started off as a striker)
Chadli (already tested)
Coulthirst
Lamela?
Dier (he plays where he *doesn’t* want, where he *doesn't* waaaant, that boy Dier - he pl...)

The highest goalscorer ever in the history of our academy apparently.

But no - Chadli and Lamela alternating like against Milan for me.

whenever i saw him in academy action he looked to me like a young English Jari Litmanen

The Standard has reported we're in for Austin - could just be posturing on our part to push the Berahino deal through

Personally I'd take both

Wouldn't mind seeing Dembele up there!

He played inside forward at AK (quite effectively too), but I'm not sure he would score too many playing for us as a striker considering he likes to hover around the box rather than make any runs and pass the ball rather than shoot. Fix those two issues and we'll have a world class striker on our hands.:D

I'm not sure any of that list really would come close to being an acceptable stopgap for Kane. Chadli has been rather average when he has played there IMO but is the best of that crop of players listed.

Chadli is not a striker, however played up front, every game, he'd likely get or match last season's total. Interestingly that would make him a decent striker for a mid tier club.

Or we'd rather sign a player we really want rather than just anyone. Either way people will complain.

There are many parties involved in a transfer and many obstacles to overcome. Without knowing which players we've enquired about, their interest in joining us and their current club's willingness to deal there's no way to know what's happening and our thinking behind it. I don't think it's a case of simply throwing more money at someone anyway.

Please stop trying to bring some sanity to this subject, get on the programme and moan

id stick Mason up there

He'd be a great hold-up player, but could you carry a forward who never actually shoots?
I remember when he was at Fulham playing more as a number 10, he was interviewed after a game and he said Jol has told him he needs to get off 4 or 5 shots a game and it was working.
Sounds pretty basic but just tell him to be more selfish around the box.

I really cant believe we have started another season with one striker. I know other players can do a job there but if Levy has true aspirations of finishing in the top 4 you would think he would give his manager the tools to do it.

We havent learnt are lesson from when Harry was in charge, when we started the 2011/12 season late because we didnt sign Parker or Adebayor until the end of August and when ended up finishing 1pt behind Arsenal.

So annoyed right now, Man U were there for the taking today and we had no options. We have started the season with 1 striker we have faith with and who is a kid. Think Levy has done a good job with Spurs but this penny pinching is costing us
