The all new Striker thread..

Wanted striker to play second fiddle to 22yr old local boy.
Must be proven goal scorer
Must fit within a squad full of young players who mostly know each other
Must be willing to do double training sessions and play high press football
Preferably played in PremierLeague
Must have wages less than 60k

Yeah good luck with that. Only option is a player who can play as part of a front 3 and also play as main striker its why Berahino is a no brainer
I would've said that Berahino ticked every single box above? Proven, already knows half our squad through Eng u21s, double training/high press would be no problem, PL proven, wages of less than £60k.

Hmmm I'm not sure why so many think having one striker going in to the season is not a worry.
Might as well prepare ourselves for some more unspectacular August results. Facts of life, I suppose, even if it means next May we're left wondering why we've finished a handful of points off the pace of our famous ambitions yet again.

It's happened before and that's why I'm surprised we still see "window is open till sept" argument.

Most our rivals have done there main business now and will just be touching up the squad, we still have numerous holes.

As for going into the season with one striker who has had one good season and has so much pressure on his shoulders is absolute madness.

If Soldado is off then we will have to sign a striker this week. If we don't then surely we are sacrificing the first few games of the season just to maybe save a couple of quid on late transfers.

Or we'd rather sign a player we really want rather than just anyone. Either way people will complain.

There are many parties involved in a transfer and many obstacles to overcome. Without knowing which players we've enquired about, their interest in joining us and their current club's willingness to deal there's no way to know what's happening and our thinking behind it. I don't think it's a case of simply throwing more money at someone anyway.

I know what you're trying to get at, but unfortunately that's exactly the case. If we offered Brom £35m for Bera and gave him a £100K/week salary, fudge the 48 hours; he'd be here in 48 minutes. Sad, but true.

12 minutes later the entire squad would be outside Levy's door with the agents wanting wage parity with that northern lad who Kane knows from his summer holidays

I'm not sure its entirely about penny pinching however I do think its hugely concerning that at the moment we only look like having one CF. Presumably that might be contributing to the delay in Ade and Soldado leaving however, in a scenario where we werent able to find/agree terms for a new CF who we want, we'd have to get at least one of those two to stay and neither would be entirely happy.

Add to that the fact that sometimes players in their second seasons get found out by oppositions, given that they're more of a known quantity, PLUS there were a lot of games last year where we sneaked last winners, often from Eriksen, AND that we lacked goals last year anyway....all makes me a bit concerned from an attacking perspective...

If he wanted to come and wasn't hanging out until he was certain that all the big boys were done and dusted.

Also, does he want to come and play second fiddle to harry rather than be the dog's gonads where he currently is?

Brom might say yes but Saido and his agent might hesitate a while.

Same auld crap with Spurs . Money is king .. Two games against united cost us 4th last year if I look at it that wAy .. All I want is spurs to give them a proper game on Saturday and not lay down and take a beating like the sorry pricks they were last year . I totally fear worst though again !! Can't believe we not strengthened midfield area more than anything else .. Shocking really .. And by that I mean dm position . Can understand striker issue a bit cos every team wants top striker and money counts there so we have to wait out turn . This 48 hr crap is getting boring now .. We are penny pinching as usual in getting people in little bit less in getting bodies out cos it's only rubbish going out and hint of desperation with all of them

Not sure about that at all, he may wait and see if any of the big boys ( City have already been mentioned as showing interest in him) decide to enter the race for him.

But if we offer City wages, why don't you think he would come to us where he'll get much more playing time? Surely it can't be just CL that would attract him. The only reason I can think of is the possibility of winning a title, even though he would know he'd probably be a squad filler.

Because most players want to win things and as much as I hate to say it City are in a much better position to do that then us. Who knows he may end up here but I can not blame him for weighing up his options.

Season starts for us in under 4 days time and Kane is the only striker we have fully integrated in the first team squad, interesting

DO you guys think Levy is adopting a policy of not buying strikers until we get rid of Soldado and Adebayor? Becuase if he is it is pathetic, and if he is not then what is the reason for this freakin' delay?

I expect it's more likely other clubs making us wait for their own reasons, be it sorting replacements or trying to get a better deal

we don't seem to be stopping Ade or bobby from moving on until we have someone, the holdups appear to be relayed to the buying clubs

Then who do you think we have seriously tried to sign?

Then who do you think we have seriously tried to sign?

no idea

but we employ plenty of smart people
so I'm confident we are trying

personally I'd rather we end up with no one and have to play chadli/coulthirst/dier up there when Kane isn't available than waste big money on the wrong guy

also, if there is any fire to all of the berahino smoke the fact that WBA had a takeover fall through and have just concluded a couple of incomings themselves could delay things

we still have over three weeks of the window left, no need to panic

the work done on the D and the outgoings suggest a definite plan is in place to me

It's all good . We going to blow 40m Tomm on players and strikers . Chill people's Daniel has this .. All over this like vorm trying to catch a ball
