The all new Striker thread..

I wonder...and this is bordering on the delusional/Insane.

Pool have now lost Sterling, Suarez the year before...I wonder how Mr Daniel Sturridge is feeling...obviously injury wise he had a mare last season. could he possibly be a little disgruntled at seeing those two leave? unsettled? would he like to come back to London?

would it be a good time to make a bid for him? no chance whatsoever I know but it would be worth it just to wind those lot up by making a cheeky bid.

id rather keep Bobby

nah, the thinking (according to one of the journo's on football weekly) is that all of DS's recurring injury problems are because DS isn't doing what the doctors are telling him

Nutters or not, one of them regularly bangs in plenty of spectacular goals from every possible and impossible angle, and the other one, well, uh... doesn't.

They both could do a good job for us.
Would be close to a perfect transfer window imo. Sorted our defence and brought in the perfect mentors for Kane and Bentaleb, whilst still having a good season or two to offer. Never going to happen mind you, but a nice thought non the less.

Has there been any discussion of Basle's Breel Embolo in this thread? I know that we were vaguely linked with him recently.

One of those scouting type websites did a feature on him a week or so ago, along with a video. And, with the usual caveats about rushing to judgement on the basis of a highlights reel, I really liked what I saw. Quick; very strong; direct; good movement off the ball; good skills; plays with his head up; unselfish - plenty of assists; scores all sorts of different goals; can play wide forward or central striker; has qualities that we currently lack; still only 18.

Still obviously very raw and inexperienced (though he already has Champions League games under his belt) and may have all sorts of faults that a highlights video edits out. But on the basis of what I saw, and what the article suggested about him, he is exactly the kind of player we should be taking a punt on. It looks as though he could do a very decent job for us already and has the potential to become a beast of a player in a year or three.

Also worth pointing out that striker is one of the few positions in which we aren't especially strong, currently, at academy / development squad level. So Embolo would fill a gap without blocking the path of a youth prospect.

Any of you seen much of him and able to confirm that he'd be worth a punt or to give any compelling reasons as to why he wouldn't be a good signing?

It is sobering to think that Michu was awesome one year and then touted around like a broken pram for a fiver... No wonder Levy doesn't want to spend more than £15m and stick to sub 26 yr olds I.e. Resale value.

I've not seen Michu at Napoli but for Swansea I thought he was fantastic.

Swansea manager Garry Monk has confirmed that Michu will not play for the club again. #swansfc

According to the Mirror:

Tottenham will make a £15million bid for West Brom’s rising star Saido Berahino this week, writes Alan Oliver in the Sunday People.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has made the Baggies striker a priority.

And with Spurs’ Emmanuel Adebayor in talks with Aston Villa as a potential replacement for Liverpool-bound Christian Benteke, Pochettino now has room to bring in the 21-year-old.

Tottenham watched Berahino’s progress last season with great interest, but never made a bid.

That will change in the next few days though, with Pochettino determined to bring the player to White Hart Lane.

Please let it be so

He's the one that makes the most sense to me. He can play a couple of positions, closes down well and has played with Kane before.

Attitude very questionable seems very Stirling like ... but has recently dropped the same agent they both used to share
