The all new Striker thread..

yedlin not experienced playing further up the pitch ... a few games does not fill me with confidence to cover the whole season.

Mason never played as a deep central midfielder before last season but he kinda coped ;)

I have no idea about Yedlin, but a problem is that Poch prefers his wide men to be inverted so Yedlin on the right wont really work

i see PSG are allowing Ibrahimovic to leave for 3.2 mill pounds......jeez, imagine if we were lucky to have even one season of Ibra magic at the Lane

AC Milan are faves to sign him

Serious question - if we sign Mirralas, to add to Verts, Alde, and Chadli and Dembele...

Would anyone think more favourably on buying Benteke?

This inverted thing isn't true. Poch like his wider midfielders to play narrow and be able to cut inside, not necessarily be inverted.

Hell no. At that point, we risk the Belgian clique becoming so large and influential that a rebellion against the coach by said bunch would pretty much force Levy to pull the trigger on Poch. Too much player power there.

Four Belgians + Azzaoui is fine. Five Belgians + Azzaoui, I can perhaps understand. Six Belgians +Azzaoui....I'm not sure I'd want a clique that large forming at the club.

yes but when cutting inside the player has to be able to be productive and thats why it makes more sense to be a left footer on the right side and a right footer on the left side. When cutting or drifting in with the ball they are able to quickly shoot, cross or even play a clever forward through ball in behind the opposition defence. The movements are more natural

It's not a lot for a first choice striker but it's extortionate for a second choice.

Poch won't be playing two strikers (neither should he) and I find it very hard to imagine a world where any manager would pick Benteke over Kane. Neither, for that matter, can I imagine a world where Benteke would be happy getting splinters in his 4rse waiting for Kane to get injured.

It may well be a minority view on my part but I have seen enough of Kane to belief he would excel both as a number 9 and as a number 10 playing behind a number 9 (just as Rooney can). In that context I think we easily play him behind a quality number 9. If would have work last season once Kane forced himself into the team but Ade and Soldado were simply not good enough. But i appreciate this may be a minority view

I think I am in the minority here that does not think we should move Kane. He has excelled as a lead the line striker, he has added short based pace to his game and this has allowed him to push defenders back and not hold such a high line. This along with his not stop running, eye for a pass as a striker that can hold it up and his finishing. He may well have played as a 10 in younger years, but he has proven himself as a lead the line striker.

Leave him there. When we tried to drop him deeper around feb time his game went off. Believe in him. We dont need Benteke, we dont need Llorente. We have Kane. We just need someone to be able to come on for him or replace him when rested or injured. Benteke wont want to do that and neither will Llorente. Maybe Austin would. I would be happy with a proven Premier League striker.

I would suggest his game did not go off but rather the team looked worse because we had a donkey upfront as a number 9 when he was moved to a number 10. For the record I do believe in him, but where we want to go we need more top quality. Man Utd did not say because they have Rooney they would not sign RVP.

I feel we should sign someone who is capable of playing alongside Kane because Kane on his own will not always be enough and we need to accept that

I agree that Kane on his own is not enough. But I dont think we need another quality striker. Im pretty certain Poch is only ever going to play one striker. So spending all our money on a guy who may well be on the bench is something we cannot afford. We are not Man U. They can afford and still attract star players who will settle for being in a squad.

We need to up the Quality of our starting 11. Our three behind Kane is the problem. We need more goals in it. Lamela with one league goal. Eriksen does ok, and Chadli in spurts. But Im hoping that Pritchard and maybe Ali can bring more goals from the players around Kane. One Quality wide Striker could make all the difference so our starting 11. That and a true defensive midfielder.

Im happy with the squad now apart from maybe 2 players. I think we have brought in more than we have spent. With more to go. So we should have cash considering the TV deal for one or 1 Marquee signings. A very good DM. And a very good Striker-Winger.

Sure we are not Man Utd but the aim is still to make the top 4. I think a lot of people underestimate how lucky we were with Harry Kane not getting injured once he got in the team. All it takes is one mistimed tackle from some clobber like Charlie Adam and Kane could be out for 2 months. Now imagine that happened in late September, with league matches every weekend and Europa Cup and domestic cup matches mid week we were be truly fecked :(

All it takes is one pre-meditated targeted hatchet man job from Charlie Adam (like he repeatedly did against Bale) and Kane could be out for 2 months.
