The all new Striker thread..

Not that simple at all.. What box would you put Torres in for example? Was he a success or failure?
One example does not a trend make and there is no algorithm that will hit the mark 100% of the time. So what's your alternative/suggestion?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great player, but what if his form doesn't pick up this year? It's a crap shoot either way.

Every single player of ours could be sold if that train of thought is taken to its logical conclusion, you know. The ones coming off a bad season could all be sold using the logic you used ('what if they never improve?'), and the ones coming off a good season could be easily sold by just reversing that logic ('what if this is their high point, and they decline next year?').

Don't get me wrong, I think Mason could do a good job in Eriksen's position, and we've got Alli, Onomah and even Dembele to cover in that role should Eriksen leave. But crucially, I don't think selling one of the most naturally talented players in our squad because he had a.....sub-par half season, is a good idea at all. Partly because of the seeming absurdity of the proposal itself, and partly because even if he is sold, I don't see the money being used to strengthen the team adequately anyway, not in this age of self-defeating, self-imposed austerity. In this era, if our best players must be sold, I'd rather they ask to be sold themselves, as opposed to just being sold in pursuit of mythical improvements to the team that will likely never occur.

And when sub par gives you a goal or assist return like he had I'd take it

The guy is class and still young

I don't think you will be, as long as Eriksen's used as a #10 I expect him to struggle. I'd be happy to see Eriksen and Lamela either side of Pritchard at some point though.

Id prefer us to not have a ten and play the way we played when we looked at our best last season
4 at the back
Mason, Bentelab and Dembele in midfield

Erisken and Chadli supporting Kane

It's how e played against arsenal and west brom and we looked blinding

Your eyes will tell you a lot more about a player than some algorithm. My point was that you had a player that had exactly the same attributes that was a success at Liverpool that was also a failure at Chelsea. You have to buy players that fit your profile (whatever that may be at the time). I don't think it is a coincidence that teams like Porto/Benfica/Atletico/Dortmund/plus others buy/use and sell for huge profits year after year without actually producing (youth) much of their own.

Van Persie maybe available.

It's not just algorithm driven. Obviously you look at a player first. But there are many that your eyes tell you are good and they flop. So there are some additional factors that need to be considered. Enter the algorithm. As for Porto, Dortmund, et al, I don't know how they do it year in and year out, so maybe it's their eyes we should have gone after and not Mitchell?

I've just read that Seydou Dombia mah be available from Roma and that Wet Spam are in for him. He looked blinding before they've to Roma and reminds me of Bony. May be worth a cheeky one

really quiet on the striker talk ... we seem to be wrapping up the defender deals early, we need to bring at least one striker in quickly

Berahino has cut ties with his agent, the same one who manages Sterling......very wise decision imo

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has sacked his agent, Aidy Ward, reportedly in response to the long-running Raheem Sterling saga.

Ward, also Sterling's representative, played a key role in the fallout between the 20-year-old and his current club Liverpool, making several controversial comments to the media in

Berahino only joined Ward's Impact Sports Management last season, but has now severed ties with the company.

"I'm no longer working with Saido," Ward said according to the Mail. "You'll have to ask him for the reasons."

Ward also opened up about the recent developments in the Sterling fiasco, after the attacker refused to join Liverpool on their preseason tour of Asia and did not report for training on Wednesday citing illness.

"With Raheem, there has been a breakdown in trust between him and Brendan Rodgers."

Hmm...interesting. No comment from Berahino, but they assume it's because he is looking over at what's happening with Sterling??
Yeah, right...

Berahino rarely makes any comments from what I've seen. Does he even have Twitter

Why would a player go public about changing agents, particularly one that's getting a as rep for him and his client

It just seems to me that the papers have added 2 + 2 and got 10. It's not clear why Berahino is changing agents but somehow they assume it's due to the bad rep the Sterling saga is causing his agent.
Seems a jump in logic to me, especially when you think of it that through al the blah blah, Sterling's agent is possibly going to get him a deal way above his current status. If anything, you'd think Berahino would want his interests looked after in a similar (if ultimately kid of vulgar) way...
