As already stated in this thread, I think he would be a very sound buy for the squad

But the ITKs promised this summer would deliver the most exciting transfer window ever. A combination of middle east investment and Joe Lewis desire to 'play with the big boys' would see world class stars fighting each other to play at the Lane.
AVB clearly want our midfielders to be athletic, with both Jenas and Livermore playing a lot so far.
M'Vila interest wouldnt surprise me. There's more to M'Vila than just defensive play,
he' often put into the limited dm category as most big and black midfielders are, but M'Vila is much more of an all rounder and a complete midfielder.
There are defensive midfielders who do that role better than him, and obviously playmakers that do better than him in that field,
but there arent many who combine the two roles as good as M'Vila.
I haven't seen a great deal of M'Vila, but what I have seen I don't understand the hype and wouldn't say he's an all rounder. I think his game is more limited than Parkers. For me Lass Diarra is a far better player. He's a genuine all rounder who gets put in a limited DM category. But Lass is fast as hell, a good passer and nearly as good as Dembele when it comes to dribbling in midfield. Lass is just better at everything the M'Vila from what I've seen and it much more athletic. Him and Sandro would make us very hard to break down, plus Lass would add a bit of spark with his forward runs on the ball. I also really like Capoue. I'd be pleased with any one of Lass, Capoue or Dembele, but from what I've seen of M'Vila he reminds me a bit of Livermore, which is okay, but nothing special.
but the premiership has shown teams without one cope fine. United don't have one, chelsea didn't have one, City have Silva but he plays further forward so they don't have one in the centre , hmmm so really Gooners and Saudi Sportswashing Machine are the 2 teams that played with one that finished in the top 6.I agree M'Vila is a bit more alround than say Sandro or Parker.
But to replace Modric we need a specialist ball retainer. The Euros really highlighted how teams without one of these (i.e. England), just can't compete at the top level. For me Moutinho or Sahin is absolutely essential.

United had to bring back Scholes because they struggled without one. They also have Carrick and obviously desperately want Modric.
AVB identified it as a weakness for Chelsea so spent all last summer pursuing Modric then Moutinho.

A deep lying play maker is essential these days. Someone who can not only dictate play and get passes towards the attacking players, but also to act as an outlet for retaining possession in deeper positions. The opposition can't score against you if they can't get the ball off you, and it's no coincidence that our defensive record was excellent in the two seasons we had Carrick, then turned dogbrick for two years after we sold him until we signed Modric.
If we lose Modric, we need to replace him with someone who can not only pass the ball but crucially, has a good touch and is able to receive a pass under pressure but still be able to keep hold of the ball.
United? They have Scholes and Carrick who range from excellent to very good on the ball and I would say both of them and Fletcher, Cleverley and probably Anderson are easily ahead of Parker, Sandro, Livermore and Jeneas on the ball.
Even accepting that Lampard isn't one (and I think in the role he played today for example, he is), Chelsea struggled under AVB and when Di Matteo took over it was back to route one towards Drogba. I don't want us to depend on hoofing it to succeed partly because it's not great football to watch and partly because we're not very good at it.
Silva does play further forward, but they play Yaya Toure in that role regularly, I can't possibly believe you don't think he is a ball playing midfielder. I would also put Barry and Milner ahead of the aforementioned Spurs players in that category.
