Modric set for showdown talks with Spurs

Luka Modric has been banished to training on his own for Tottenham by new manager Andre Villas Boas.

Modric has been trying to push through a move to Real Madrid all Summer but has seen Daniel Levy and the Tottenham management digging their hills in and not allowing him to move for less than £40 million. It is reported that Real Madrid have offered £30 million for the star but are not prepared to go beyond this.

Modric did not travel with the squad for their pre-season visit to Spain before a friendly with Valencia and is fast becoming an outcast at the club and is worried for his future. Villas Boas is treating Modric in much the same way as he treated Alex and Nicolas Anelka last year with Chelsea much to the astonishment of many Chelsea stars – it remains to be seen how the other Tottenham players feel about his treatment.

Opinion – I can understand Tottenham wanting to get the most money for the star, however for two seasons now Modric has been trying to leave Tottenham – they are not in the Champions League and maybe now is the time they should let him move on. He is going to become a distraction to the other Tottenham players and they will undoubtedly be annoyed at the way that he is being treated by Andre Villas Boas as he has been an integral member of the squad for so long. It’s a shame it’s come to this as Modric as always given his all for Tottenham and the way he is being treated is again testament to Andre Villas Boas questionable man management skills. Could the Modric situation be the undoing of the new Tottenham squad in much the same way as he lost the dressing room at Chelsea because of his treatment of Anelka.

Spanish TVE 1 news has just said that Tottenham will accelerate the sale of Modric over the weekend as they have come to an agreement with Bilbao to sign Llorente. Not a wind up.

seen elsewhere, may or may not have already been posted in this thread

you know what, I could live with this.

i love Modric but hey, things move on.

From Marca yesterday

André Villas-Boas visited the Mestalla press room and it was not only his team's defeat against Valencia on the list of topics for discussion. The name of Luka Modric, the object of Real Madrid's interest for some time now, predictably came up, and Villas-Boas commented that "he's training alone. We decided to do that until his mental state is ready to return to the team".

The Tottenham manager gave a reminder that "no agreement has been reached because Madrid has not come close to what the president wants", adding, "we respect the player's ambition, but he must also respect the club".

The Portuguese coach is clear that, if the Croatian remains in London, his objective will be "to get his (Modric's) head right to play for us" and that "until we receive a suitable offer, he will not go". "The contacts we have had with other clubs have not met with what Tottenham wants for the player. We respect the size of Madrid and the other interested clubs, but they must respect what we are doing too", he stressed.

So in short all the ITK pricks who have been announcing done deals for various strikers are a bunch of attention seeking pricks. I am not a violent person by nature by I would be ready to make an exception for some of these wasters

Why get so angry about somebody posting information about a football team..

How about actually looking at the information provided by each of them and then based on that see who end up being right more often than not and then not believing in those that are regularly wrong while giving a bit more credit to those who end up being right quite a bit?

JJetset's recent posts/tweets on the timing of things:

Tuesday this week: Long way to go&people need to be patient as things wont happen o'night or they are setting them up for disapointment

Wednesday this week:

Asked: When asked "Any signings before the weekend?? And will we have a new striker before Saudi Sportswashing Machine?"...
Answered: Not looking likely atm, hopefully for next weekend.

If he is under contract and they want to keep him and he is content to stay, then yes if that is what would change their mind.

Are you trying to apply logic and clear-headed thinking to this most emotive of topics?

How about just ignoring all of them.
Journalists signpost all future transfers way before they happen.

Sound advice, anything that comes over teletext is dubiious to say the least.

As they say teletext is for those that can not shut up even when their on their own in a empty room.
