So you think a player joining from Arsenal, one that most Spurs fans consider to be utter turd, is going to be given time? He's barely PL quality.

Many fans consider the majority of their players to be utter turd. Some of our fans consider VdV as average at best and should start on the bench. He's a decent forward who can give us options and 2nd/3rd choice - obviously not our main target

As a side note - so any player who signs from a rival or has been previously deemed 'brick' - should not be given time to prove what he can do and will instead be judged on his past games instead of Spurs peformances. Based on that - Ade and Gallas should have been stoned on their debuts. Take some time and read that again.

Bendtner would be bad news IMHO, apart from Sol Campball no one is unsignable (taking George Graham as manager showed us that) and former gooner heros can be accepted at the Lane (Gallas, Adebayor). But it's harder work for them and if they don't get the breaks they will have the crowd on their back. And if it's one think I've seen too much at WHL over the years it's spacegoating.

Unfortunately Bendtner has don't nothing to prove he is a good enough quality for the Premiership, let alone a top 4 club. The only player who has ever said he is world class is himself!

Gallas won us over with his performance against Arsenal in my opinion, having signed pretty much FROM them (released but still) was much harder for him, was still getting the odd boo here and there but that performance away at Arsenal cemented him at Spurs for me. Adebayor who had played for Emirates Marketing Project and even had his problems with Arsenal I think made it easier for him here also add the fact he was clearly the best striker we had since Berbatov I don't think it would have been hard for him to win us over.

You really got what I said, couldn't have phrased it better myself.

A lot of baggage?! The **** shouldn't be allowed to kick a football about for a living, he doesn't deserve it. Tell you what, let's get Marlon King in whilst we're looking for a striker. fudge me, even QPR got fed up with his inane flimflam in the end, he might have stopped randomly attacking people but he's still a prick and still an average footballer.

Yeah can't be bothered to argue to be honest, like I said I know I'd be in the minority. Do think he's better than average though....

Just out of interest (honest question, not having a dig) Are there any current arse players that you wouldn't be prepared to sign and let them be judged on their Spurs performances?

Any gooners you hate in their squad Arc?

Their keeper, Frimpong, and Wheelchair in partiuclar I would struggle to ever accept, tbh.

As for the rest - most of them are semi-mercenaries anyway - sadly, the shirt means fudge all these days. So if some are willing to come and perform - I'd be preapred to support them as long as they respect the white shirt. Look at Ade and Gallas for examples - professionals who always give their best.

Ade - Player who publically sledged Arsenal and had a successful loan at the biggest football club in the world the previous season
Gallas - Incredible footballer who was unlucky not to have a few more honours to his name and always seems to score against us. Only bad moment was sitting like a child in the middle of the pitch and making himself look a wally
Bendtner - Average footballer with the ego of a superstar who has never impressed, even in "small" teams like Birmingham and Sunderland

...I have no idea why Spurs fans would treat Bendtner differently? :D

I agree with ArcspacE in terms of who I'd take off them. Them 3 are no go's considering what they talk and think of us. But for me that is how it should be, they are Arsenal players and have been brought up through there youth ranks so they know of the rivalry and what it means to the fans, wish we had some players like that and we sort of do with van der Vaart.

The rest? couldn't care if we sign them, they have some great talent in the team. I mean if we ever got offered Chamberlain, I wouldn't say no.

Good answer, fair play

Gallas was 32 when he signed and I still remember some of the harsh comments. Ade was average at City and scored a few goals during his 4 month spell at RM, largerly from the bench.

Forget about your dislike towards Bendtner for a second - my question actually evolved to a generic scenario whether rival players should be

- given time to prove themselves in a Spurs shirt and be subsequently judged on that (Exhibit A: William Gallas)

- deemed brick on past game and hated from the onset, prejudiced against and ultimately crushed

And I pretty much just answered that by suggesting that players are completely different. Should a rubbish signing who should never have been given the shirt be given time? - i.e. Bendtner - No

Should a grudgingly good footballer be given time? - i.e. Ade - Yes

Should a major coup, stolen from the Scum and likely to leave them in pieces be given time? i.e. Henry/RVP - All the time in the world

I don't want cast offs from our rivals, I don't want cast offs from anywhere and will be intolerent of them. If we manage to get a good signing, then I am perfectly happy to see how it pans out. If we manage to steal a player on a Bosman that leaves the opposition absolutely fuming, then I'm happy to wait for a hen to grow teeth.

A football fan being illogical and emotional in his decisions. Whatever will we see next? ;)

Bendtner :ross: He is a crock of brick. You know you are brick when you play in a fluid scum team, get plenty of chances and still fail to look even remotely average.

So only players who've been deemed 'good' by Spurs fans in the past should be given time to impress/preform/re-start their careers if they ever sign?

Sorry, but I can never agree with that - was Gallas technically a crock gooner reject (or a cast-off as you've put it) who came for a retirement pay-check? According to the above logic we should have never accepted him and many were disappointed in his signing at the time - yet he proved all the doubters wrong with solid, professional performances and good work ethic.

Personally, I have time for any player (bar the obvious historical 'excpetions') who wants to wear the shirt with pride and professionalism - and shold be given a chance accordingly. And that is why I would never accept Luka back, even if he stays

Completely disagree. If we signed Bendtner from Wigan, I would be a mixture of shock/disbalief/annoyance but ultimately, bite my tongue until he had ruined the first ten games of the season for us... To see him coming from Arse, and all of their fans belly laughing at us paying £15m+ for him AND THEN seeing him play like utter turd... Sorry, I'm not having it.

He would still do better in our team than Defoe and Kane

Kaboul on Lloris

"Kaboul has also revealed that he has spoken to reported Tottenham target Hugo Lloris about a move to England.

On the Lyon goalkeeper, he added: "I have had a phone call with Hugo Lloris. We talked about Tottenham.

"He will make his choice. He deserves to be playing in a great league."

http://www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/7973326/Kaboul-won-t-be-quitting-Spurs

From the above one could deduct the fee has been agreed and it's now down to the player to make a decision?
