Is Joe Allen really worth 15m? I never really followed him last season but appears to be rated quite highly amogst fans

What is the general opinion here?

He's a good little player tbf. Last season he was very impressive but i wouldn't be happy if we spent £15m on him.

If Allen is worth £15m, then Moutinho is worth £40m and Modric is worth £55m.

Allen is Tom Carroll + 2 years championship and EPL game time.

Agree that there is little point signing Allen. Very similar player to Tom Carroll though obviously proven rather than Tom Carroll.

If Modric leaves (and it does look like it becoming more and more of an if) then if we cant get a genuine top class player to come in alongside Parker, Sandro and Thudd then I wouldnt bother signing a CM. I dont see any point paying a massive price for a British player who isnt going to be a top player

Cheers for all the opinions on Allen - simply thought 15m for someone who's hardly been on the scene for more than a season or two is a tad excessive

Exactly. And all those were a waste of money

That proves nothing.

You could go and find three players who did well for 1-2 years and then did go and make it in the big teams just as easily.

Just because liverpool overspent on average talent, does not make it the general case. After all at the time everyone outside liverpool was saying they'd fudged up before a ball was kicked.

Would Ade hold out on signing if he thinks we really are looking at a Falcao, LLorente etc and he might not end up first choice?

Or vice versa if Ade signs soon would it impact other potential signings and their decision to join or not?

Or do footballers earning over 100k a week not give a f**k lol

The point here is that Liverpool over the past two seasons have overpaid for average British footballers.

Really?

I thought the point was that players only on the scene for 1-2 years were never good enough to pay good money for.

If it's about Liverpool overpaying i can get behind it.

"Modric lite" is probably a pretty fair snapshot. And while he has only been on the premiership scene a season he has been in Swanseas team for years and been just as good the whole time.

He recycles the ball very well, yes thats a lot of sideways passes but he also pushes it forward well as well. He has the ability similar to Modric to carry the ball forward and ride a challenge or two while doing so. He is also ok defensively, more the type to intercept or nick it off your toe than tackle (though not in a super Carrick sort of way)

A very tidy, busy player who keeps his team ticking over.

For Liverpool it doesnt sound the most exciting of buys but next to Lucas at the base of midfield he could be integral to embedding Rodges style and getting them playing.

...........Lucas......Allen
................Gerrard
...Suarez................. ?
.................Borinni

With Johnson and Enrique overlapping as well thats beginning to shape up as a decent team IMO. I dont know if its good enough to push the top 4 or 5, but can imagine it wouldnt be too far behind.

Im thinking there will be a top 7 and then something of a gap to 8th next season (in no particular order) City, Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Liverpool will be the 7 and then it will be some distance to 8th IMO.

I thought the fact that all the players mentioned were Liverpool players gave it away. :p

It's the backup players that's their problem

.......Spearing......Adam
................Shelvey
..Henderson...........Bellamy
...............Carroll

Also think you're seriously underestimating Everton.

Id have Bellamy in that first team in place of the ? if he was still there, thought he was leaving though.

Yes backup players are an issue. Which is part of the reason why I dont think they will be able to really trouble the top 5 - consistency is likely to be an issue.

Everton are a solid team, who seem to start slowly and then gain momentum. Its possible they could get in around Liverpool again, in all honesty I hadnt thought of them.
