yeah from what i have read it seems Pienaar was a Levy signing, had a bit of a sponsorship thing going on in SA for a while didn't we? - i blame Mabbutt

I don't get this idea that Pienaar was just a Levy signing. Harry seemed to play him plenty when he first signed him. I remember, because I really wanted Kranjcar to play instead.

Wasn't that just speculation after the fact? Or was there any actual evidence to suggest that it was true?

mainly speculation, im not saying it's any kind of fact - hence "from what i have read"

It was a very good deal on paper. Versatile midfielder for almost nothing.
if the wages weren't so (reportedly) high it would have been a no brainier really, but after the initial period he never really got much game time ? (i was abroad for 90% of that season so don't remember exactly how much he got played) and Harry didn't seem to have any qualms with letting him go on loan last season so it strikes me as a weird deal all in all

He's really heading off into the sunset as his career moves further and further west! Quite a graceful way to go out. Your a long time retired they say and he's been playing in the premier league from virtually the start of it.

Pienaar at £2.5m was an absolute bargain so i doubt it was anything else but a chairman/manager spotting a good deal and pouncing. Yeh it didn't work out (mostly because he wasn't used right here) but at the time when a player of his quality becomes available for dirt cheap you pounce.

New York Red Bulls are closing in on a £1m deal for @Tim_Cahill with Everton accepting a bid for the Australian forward.

That'll be a shock to the Spurs "supporter" I heard on talksport the other day saying Modric is no Tim Cahill.

Know no one here really cares about MLS, but that would be an absolute class signing for the Red Bulls. They already have three of the top five strikers in the league, adding Cahill to that mix from the midfield would be nasty.

Isn't there a wage cap in MLS? how are Red Bull pulling this off?
