Hunter only seems to comitt to commenting on things like this when he is VERY sure, doesnt mean its guaranteed but probably more likely than when Balague comments on every passing rumour

Hunter was on talkbrick last week and said that the Modric deal was virtually agreed and the clubs were simply 2-4 mill euros apart regarding the add ons

so someone has got their info wrong

Why? Did he say the deal would sorted there and then?

well after hearing that Perez has said that Real wont offer more than 27.5 mill pounds, and that reportedly Levy wants nearer 40 mill pounds, plus Modric's antics and AVB's severe public repremading of Modric, and say that the deal with Modric to Real is far from "virtually agreed" and a few million euros apart :-s

If Spurs had a decent scouting network we would be aware of other suitable candidates. Cabaye was available for 3.5 mill but Saudi Sportswashing Machine have a good scouting system in France

Not sure how good your scouting network needs to be to scout someone in the French national team. Better than Redknapp's MOTD scouting obviously, but...

If you are comparing based only on value then maybe, but as players I would say the opposite is true.

Dembele is very mobile, with a very good short passing game, good close control, and passes and moves the ball forward in a similar manner to Modric - rather than being the deep sitting ball sprayer that Huddlestone is.

I wasn't meaning that specific - just a decent back-up ballplaying CM, but not really good enough to be starting regularly for a top 4 side.

You could have best scout in the world still need a manager to agree with him and a chairman willing to spend money on them. What's to say when Carr was at spurs he didnt unearthed some absolute gems but levy just didn't fancy them for whatever reason?

Carr was Pleat's man and Pleat always has Levy's ear. I think Levy would have listened, even if Redknapp wasn't particuarly interested, like with Broomfield and Sandro

Add in his versatility in the attacking 1/3 of the field ( can play as a RW/LW/CF) and he would be a great potential buy. I think the team doesn't need all-stars just players who complement each other.

Alot of times our scouting network sees these players but we ultimately pass on them for various reasons.
