this would be a good signing a a fcuk you to Oscar and his agents

ARSENAL and Tottenham are set to scramble for Barcelona playmaker Ibrahim Afellay after the Spanish club announced he would be put on the market.
The two Premiership clubs have shown interest in the Dutchman but as of now Barcelona have not wanted to sell him.

Now in a bid to raise funds for Jordi Alba and Javier Martinez, Barcelona are hoping to offload Afellay and Adriano.

Barcelona is expected to accept bids for Afellay of around £6million opening the door to both Arsenal and Spurs.

North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both long-term admirers of the player, with Gunners skipper Robin van Persie enjoying a close personal relationship, while Spurs have twice failed with loan-to-buy offers in recent years.

Finally. What have taken the hacks so long?

I remember Afellay being said to be on his way out of Barca around the end of the season and we've needed a player like him since the invention of the offside rule...

Hope there is something in this.

I also think the Ade story mentioned above about €115k pw + a signing-on fee is wrong. My understanding is that signing-on fee comes from notional savings we've made on a low transfer fee due to City being desperate to get rid, and this money is being given to Ade up-front in order to keep his headline monthly wage down, thus not breaking wage structures at the club. Absolutely no way Levy would throw that policy away, and by so much, on Ade at this moment. No way. The story must be wrong.

if we pay all that upfront there's little financial motivation left for ade.
if we its high monthly wages then its only a high variable cost that we need to manage .... and we have the additional option of selling ade on for a profit (due to the low transfer fee) should we find a better alternative to replace ade.

but AVB has not stopped GDS from talking to other clubs about moving. That doesnt sound like a manager who wants a player to stay and get more out of him

I think AVB wants him out and has his own ideas about who he wants to complete his attacking line up

Fair point, i wont shed a tear if he goes either. Just thought sometimes a new manager can bring out potential in some players and GDS certainly has that.

From our Rumour Room: Leighton Baines will sign for Manchester United for a fee around £12m + £4m to be paid in future..
after both clubs agreed a fee on Tuesday. He will undergo medical on Friday and pen a 4-year deal with United.

Most likely garbage, but the Baines to United rumours are strong. Would give them the cash they need to spend on the likes of Pienaar.

i like baines. hardworking, skillful and a team player. great set pieces too. price may look high to us, but its Man U... they can afford to pay.

Not good enough for the mighty Spurs. What is Fergie thinking !!!
but look at the dross around him at everton, especially after we took away their "midfield general".
he links up well so i'd expect him to do well especially in a better team.

but i know what you're on about - young is good but isn't what you'd call world class. baines fits that type of smart-but-uninspiring purchase for Man U!

dont know who this joker is, but il post it anyway:)

Even Greg would confirm he played a fair number of games in a 4-4-2

Chelsea and Everton away being the 2 obivious one which come to mind

You're talking about the second half of the season right? i know they played 4-4-2 earlier on in the season but the second half of the season was mostly:

------------------------------Cisse-----------------------------------

--BA-------------------------------------------------------Ben Arfa-

In fact the Chelski game was a game when Pardew switched to a 4-4-2 and surprised many.

That's from a selection of the last 15 games - the rest of his season you can find here

EDIT: Just to add - this is the same site Greg used to prove he did play out wide after Cisse arrived and Pardew had to fit him in.

He's looked the business when i've seen and he looks like he can play that support striker RWF role from what i've seen. Chelski will bid again for him i'm sure.

I remember him absoloutely RIPPING Liverpool apart when Fiorentina beat them in the CL a few years back
