Still have to keep myself from getting too happy about Dembele until it's actually confirmed.

At the start of the window him, Vertonghen and Ade were 3 of the realistic players I wanted the most.

Hope the deal gets done and that he starts this weekend.

But not as big as £30m for Moutinho who, although having undoubted ability, is untried in the Premier League.

I really don't think Affelay is very good.

I was also hopeful on Moutinho till yesterday, but Dembele is basically the Woolworths version of Moutinho, so I can't see us getting both.

My thinking today is:

Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Ekotto
Sandro Dembele Sig
vdV/Willian Adebayor Bale​

Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Gallas, Parker, Lennon, Willian/vdV, new Saha

£16m is a large fee but much more reasonable than the £23m which has been suggested earlier.

agree with this - all the other names were/are too fanciful to be taken seriously. Still cant see us blowing more than £20m on a single player whatever the press or tacoters say

Therein lies the rub - which is why as much as it would have been a great acquisition - Moutinho was never really an option, imv. Nor Damiao either (who'd bid was laughed off), nor Hulk, etc.

Agreed. We've spent £10-16.5m on quite a few players so to expect that figure to rise to £15-20m this window is stretching the purse strings quite enough for a club who are waiting to build a stadium

I understand that there was a £15m buy-out option in his contract, so to only pay £1m "over the odds" for a top player is good business imo

I think we will get Lloris, William & Dembele and possibly a loan and that will be it.

Outs will be Rose, Jenas and hopefully Bentley with Hudd going on loan.

I'm half hoping we don't sign Willian, not sure if I could tolerate the stupid, and no doubt endless, references to his annoying almost name sake. There are few people that really irritate me but William James Adams Jr is one of those people!

Emirates Marketing Project will sign Walcott, I think, after a deal couldn't be concluded for Sinclair.
